SurfTheChannel Owner Sentenced to Four Years in Jail | TorrentFreak

The website was a thorn in the side of the UK and US entertainment industries who went to extremes to bring the site down. Among other things, the MPAA and FACT hired an undercover agent to gain access to the defendants’ house under false pretenses.

The case eventually went to trial in May and today a judge at Newcastle Crown Court sentenced 38-year old site owner Anton Vickerman to four years imprisonment. Vickerman’s wife faced the same charges but was found not guilty in June.

The tighter the rocks(MPAA, RIAA, US, Laws & Sentences), the more cunning the water.(programmers, hackers, infringers)

knowing the riaa and mpaa that was probably a super plead down deal as well.

they are on some we want justice and counts for every single separate episode that showed up on the site.

We don't have plea bargains over here. It's likely he'll serve 2 years in total with good behaviour. He was warned repeatedly by lawyers about the dangers of what he was doing.

But 2 years in where? Could end up like these guys, who ended up in maximum security prison, alongside lovely characters like Abu Hamza and the Suffolk Strangler: DrinkOrDie - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

(Not sure if they've announced where he'll be spending the next 2-4 years yet)

^ A friend has caught dealing cocaine, was not violent, after around 6 months he went from a high security prison to an open prison, served 2 years because of good behaviour. Apparently that's the norm, the DoD guys must have done something which made them continue to appear to not be suitable to be downgraded.

well at least they will be able to hook everyone up in jail with free movies and tv shows and shit....instant job. he will be popular!!

That's fucking disgraceful. Category A prison spaces are expensive. Why the hell did they waste that much money on someone who clearly wasn't a violence or escape risk?

EDIT: Looks like Belmarsh has a Category A block, but otherwise serve local prisoners. So probably a case of "couldn't be arsed to send them somewhere else."

Nah, just did some research, looks like one of them (Steven Dowd) was from Newton-le-willows, Merseyside, so definitely not local.

This is ridiculous. I'm surprised the guy was only making 35k on 400k uniques a day. He seriously should have hired a conversion optimizer because he was leaving a 100 pound wad of cash on the proverbial table. Oh, and saved up for a defense fund. That might have been a good investment in retrospect, huh?
