being a now recovering addict at checking stats, i just thought I'd post this to make some guys aware of the problem.

It kinda creates a bad pattern in the way I work.. I wake up, and the first thing I want to check is my stats. It's kinda ok when you're campaigns are running smooth... the problem is when you're in the testing phases..

For me, I would wake up, check stats, if it's not super profitable then I'm pissed, then this shit kinda starts my day with the wrong foot.

You're doing shit in reaction mode... like if your stats own you you can't really follow a plan for your campaign like:

If x doesn't work (which it could not) then try Y and then Z.

The problem ive seen is that if im checking stats every five minutes or in between tasks then you lose track of x y and z, and it's easier to start thinking that the fucking campaign is not going to work or that the networks must be scrubbing, your computer is a whore etc etc.

so my solution for this is just layout a reasonable plan, most things wont work as smooth but just stick to it, and forget about the stats while executing.. just check stats twice a day (whenever you want.. I wouln't suggest starting your day with it.. specially if your campaign is not profitable yet).

The first thing you need to be successfull is to have your mind right.. so instead of depending whether youre making money or not (being your stat's bitch) you have to get your mind right... think about your goals and what you want to achieve with your campaign... take a look at your plan of action and execute.

This way you get more emotionally detached and you keep your head straight in this crazy business full of ups and downs.

cheers,
D

I got around this problem by making an app that interfaces with my affiliate accts and plays a cash register noise every sale. Now no more 24/7 stat checking. Sounds dumb but was only way I could ween myself off.

"This way you get more emotionally detached"

Look- its part of this biz that offers get canceled, your profits vary from day to day, sometime significantly, and there's also sorts of crazy crap that happens.

You just have to accept it and try not to become attached or let your mood be affected by your daily income. It's a hard thing to do, but I think you've already realized how negative it is to be attached.

lol a cha ching every 10 mins would drive me nuts even if it is music to one's ears at the same time :)

Use PEN and Papers. I've learn that you can't go wild with your campaign. Try braintorming on the paper with pen. Write stuffs you can think off then list down steps you need to take. Doesn't need to be in detail just to guide you instead of wasting your time checking stats.

Yeah that's key I try to write down a to do list in an actual piece of paper (as opposed to digital files)... for some reason seems to work much better to help me get shit done

id love an iphone app actually -- atm ive been planning on just displaying the consolidated data from all the aff network accts on a single webpage with a chart and someshit, thats very iphone compatible. i dont have the iphone sdk, although i suppose easy enough to get. a native app would def be nice vs the webpage.

i always prefer todo lists on whiteboards, unless theyre secret todo lists, in which case only paper or electronic file works. i really wish someone made a digital whiteboard so i could write shit on it and then save it and pw protect it so nobody else could see.

Yeah, whiteboard works fine for me but only for somethings like reminders or longterms stuffs(milestones).

someone here actually already wrote the iphone app . . .

tl;dr

but i heard from someone that the more times you refresh your stats, the more money you make. he was a super affiliate, so it must be true.

Leave my addiction alone!

I check stats at the end of the day.

How about checking my emails? FUCKING NEVER!

Scientifically proven fact. You'll go proportionally more batshit fucking crazy and get laid less, but you'll definitely make more money.

I have my girlfriend whisper "Check my stats" in my ear when I fuck her. Rich, hard, happy, all day long, bitches.

statsremote does a good job for me - it updates every 15 minutes and it makes a noise when you have a sale...it tracks most major programs so you only have to look at the one page versus refreshing multiple websites. i've found it to be a big timesaver...
