Stolen Passports



go to police to declare them stolen and publish a classified they are stolen in a local newspaper. that should render them invalid

disclaimer: not sure about usa specifics
 
Happened to me a few years ago, credit seems fine, it's not a nice feeling though.

I did report to police.
 
Contact the credit bureau's and place a freeze on your credit. I think the freeze only lasts 90 days or something but at least they won't be able to do anything with it.

and then contact the state dept (im sure they have a form) to inform them of the theft.

BTW never leave anytihng of value in the hotel room. The staff probably stole them. You're less likely to get pick pocketed than to have some piece of trash steal it from you in your "home"

I'm mostly worried about someone opening credit with my details. Is lifelock actually good or is it a sham? I know they are a good company to push.

I second the recommendations to freeze your credit with all three bureaus and to file the paperwork to notify the gov't of the missing passports if you are an 'Merican
