i have a site and the support for the server is a nightmare - but because i dont need the support very often
i cant be bothered to move my site to a different server - what do you put up with from your host - what would be the final straw to make you move host provider

I try not to worry too much about support. As long as there's not excessive downtime then I'm happy.

Uptime is thing 1# for me, but because I'm newbie and don't know how everything works (mysql etc.) I need support very often ;)

Same, must have uptime... some of the hosts I've been with tell you upfront that they offer minimal support or restrict support to certain areas and you're responsible for most things

Probably more common in dedicated and vps plans than shared hosting though

Uptime and general speed. If I check on my site and notice its constantly slow (server side) I may have an issue.

Other than that Im pretty easy to please.

I usually go with the smaller hosts as they provide more of a 'at home' feeling in terms of support if any is needed. Not to mention their servers will most likely be much faster as well since they won't have as many people on them compared to some of the bigger ones such as DreamHost.

downtime and poor support (or more specifically, lonnnnnng response times) is what makes me start looking for a new host. Hardware breaks and servers go down but when this happens more then just a few times a year, I would start to wonder what who is running the servers and what they are running on. Sometimes it's just bad luck with hardware.

Lunarpages.com is ok, not the cheapest but good uptime and free phone support 24/7 I have several accounts with them now. I piggy back their support so my clients call lunar about problems after hours, which is nice, other wise they call me. Their trouble ticket system is also good. I have ahad at least 1 account with them for 5 years now.

IP01.net I have a couple accounts with them. They are cheaper then lunar and dont use Control Panel X. They had a hardware failure some time ago and lost one of my sites. I had a backup and it was only out of action for a couple hours, still I have not added any more accounts with them.

amxhosting.com - I just opened an account with them (actually some one here recommended them) their sign up and activation was overly complicated. It took more then 24 hours to get activation... but they are cheaper then the other two and the server is quick.

I have used several others and abandoned them for one reason or another. I can not even recall their names anymore... there are so many and the competition really keeps the prices low!
