Hi All,

Why is it recommended to use a landing page with a static home page with a blog on the back end? What are the advantages/benefits to doing this?

Thanks in advance

Your blog is always changing and may cover several topics that the future reader cares about or doesn't care about. The goal of a landing page is to make the the reader know that the content he desires is on this site despite the first few posts being on a different topic. Think of a landing page as a selling page, hook the reader.

Hi Rasher, thanks for the response. I'm actually wondering what the search engine benefits and especially the benefits of using a blog back end set up with adwords ... if that makes sense.

It depends on your goal.

If your goal is to have a blog tightly focused on a single topic and to depend mostly on search engine and social networking for visitors, then it usually best to have the blog up front since it's the main 'product'.

If your goal is to use the blog as additional material for a mini-site or landing page, then the opposite approach is probably called for. Also, if your blog varies topics a lot, for example you write about banana pudding, Mustang engines, tropical fish and SEO, then a landing page will probably help your search results and can explain your eclectic tastes to visitors.

Thanks for the response, bgmacaw.

My question now is, what if I want only a static page, where my only action is to opt in to an autoresponder and then be re-routed to the sales site? Will this cause penalty in QS and make my cost per click increase?

Do it and find out. What is it going to cost $5 bucks? Come back with a report when you find out. Everybody get a different experience. And also stop thinking ONLY about Google. Use, MSN and Yahoo and other networks as well. QS means different things to different networks.

I agree with Rasher and bgmacaw. You site/Landing page should have the content that your're trying to sell. If its through a blogs then have them upfront.

Here is what i suggest. Have a blog upfront. Write a perfect sale letter about a product and put it in your blog post giving link back from that post to your porduct's landing page. This way you can promote both landing page and blog at the same time.

Still in confusion or need any clarification do let me know. I'll try to help as much as i can.

When I use WP, I have the homepage set as static. That way, the new blogs aren't being posted to it.

Using a blog engine like Wordpress makes it easy to have a nice clean site and automatically ping the search engines.
