Do I need to make a landing page that links to there or can I just go direct to that link?

I think it depends on the offer. When I first started out I created a landing page for my affiliate link, only to look at my affiliate link a month later and realize it landed at a pretty decent landing page. I cloaked it and use that instead of my landing page. I saw my conversions go up considerably.
