Simply put, what techniques do you use to help stabilize a site that's getting bounced around a lot? I have my own set of techniques I use to help keep the site stabilized, but I have a newer site that just doesn't want to sit very still. I've never achieved page 1 rankings with it, but I've gotten onto the second page. It jumped from 29 to 2, then went to page 4 and slowly climbed up to page 2 again over the course of two weeks. Now it's on page 8. It was recently on page 1 for a very competitive keyphrase but is now on page 4. The shit is just jumping around too much for me to make a reliable income from it. The fact that it's only about 6 months old is probably a large factor here, but no matter what I do I can't seem to push it to the top. It only jumps around.
Normally what I do to stabilize a dancing site is to throw some high PR blog comments at it along with some high quality Web 2.0 properties. Then I blast the properties a bit while at the same time maintaining a constant link velocity towards the main site. This usually keeps my rankings pretty stable. I might get a jump here and there, but nothing too big. And I do admit, this sort of dance isn't anything like what I've heard others talk about here....you know, going from page 2 to page 89 then back to page 2 again. I've actually never had that happen before because I make sure to diversify my link portfolio and maintain a constant link velocity. So what techniques do you guys use?
