Back in august, I created a new Twitter account for business purposes - basically to reserve the name because I would need it later for when the time came to get it going.

The original login email and password was stored in my Roboform, so I know the login credentials are correct.

However, last week when I tried to log in again, Twitter tells me it knows no such email address. When I go to check the account - I see someone else now has the name and is using it.... Fuck...

So I wrote to Twitter "support" through their contact us form, explaining the situation, along with proof that my email indeed was used to create the original account. But I haven't heard a thing. So what the fuck do I do at this point? It's not like I can contact the person directly since they obviously aren't following me and doesnt' know who I am.

And how did this happen? Does Twitter make the account available again if it sits unused for X number of months?

That is something they've said they were going to do at some point, it's on a page somewhere on their site about unused names/trademark names, but I'm not aware of them actually starting to do it. I am watching several unused twitter accounts for their deletion though.

If the other person asked Twitter for the name and showed that the original owner wasn't active, then Twitter may decide to re-assign that handle. The person requesting has to show some proof that their claim is related to the name.

If accounts have been inactive for a certain period of time, someone can come in and claim them. I'm not sure of the official time limit though.

I've had an account for maybe 2 years and haven't touched it since I set it up back then (also to reserve the name). I just logged in for the second time ever and it's still there. So I don't think that Twitter nukes inactive accounts.

I don't have any advice on how to best contact Twitter, never dealt with them before... Hope you can recover your account. Good luck!

That sucks bro. I just posted to one I've had reserved for about a year because I was worried about the same thing although like Fatbat said I haven't seen them actually throw any handles back in the pool yet.

Perhaps one of your WF brethren snuck a virus onto your computer through gay porn, then broke into your roboform through the key-logger he had embedded into said gay porn. Found the luscious Twitter Act and couldn't resist logged in changed act's email. Built out the niche and is now putting the new Twitter account to good use by bombing the shit out of it. All the while figuring it would be at least a year or 2 before you bothered to get around to your project.

I think this one might be the right answer.

OP, Did you log into the email? Was there every indication of anything? I get why twitter would do this but they should at least send a freakin email or something.

I had an issue with an account and it took a couple of weeks for them to get back to me, if they did not change their support system get ready for a long wait...
Its a little nuts that they would change account users without even informing you about it.

I have a Twitter I haven't posted anything on since 2009 that has 5000 followers and is still active?

You could buy mine OP and change the name?

Pm if interest brah
