Well - I run a gaming forum that is growing really fast, so now I need some fun forum games to keep them occupied.. the forum is for gamers on the Call of Duty series for xbox ps3 and pc.. now I need some retention games, even though there is a lot of content.
I did the 500th post thing, people are liking that, anything else you guys can think of that would be entertaining on the forum for users?

Over 7,000 members already (only 4 months old) and gaining anywhere from 200-400 new members a day.

If you have enough users in densely populated areas, then you might want to start a section that would be used to organize local meetups. And have them post pics afterwards.
That does wonders for building up a strong community and as well as improving user retention.
