Some advice needed on PPC keyword bidding strategy to be profitable...

Hey guys,

I'm sorta confused on how much I should bid for my keywords in order to be profitable. I'm not talking about Facebook but the conventional PPC networks like Yahoo and Bing.

What I've done so far is bid very high at $1 across all my keywords. I found that my no. of clicks exploded and I got a number of sales, just enough to break even.

Currently, I'm using just Yahoo Search so there's no way I can work on improving my QS to lower my cpc, as Yahoo's QS system is dead. So, what should I do to get the same amount of traffic but at a lower cost in order to be profitable?

Thanks guys...

_Optimize LP. a little bit of header changing = 15% ROI increase. change layout etc...
_Write 3-4 more Ads, higher CTR = ~20% CPC decrease.
_Add negative keyword, remove non converting/high volume keyword = double CTR = more volume, small decrease in CPC(this take some times to mine data)
_Switching offer = most cases double conversion rate.
_change broad to exact.

$19.99 please!

Does CPC even decrease proportionally to an increase in CTR for Yahoo Search? Your reply is from an "Adwords" frame of mind...

Are you tracking to the KW level?

Clean up your KW list. Delete non-converting KW's that are just bleeding you money,
usually broad KW's don't convert so well. Go deep with KW's that are converting well,
expand on KW terms that are converting.

Lower bids on non-converting KW's or delete them altogether.
Maintain or raise bids on KW's that convert, increase your daily budget for more
impressions.
Use buying keywords to eliminate tire kickers.
Make a negative KW list.
Don't broad match, use only phrase and exact match.

Your CPC may not change buy your ROI will get better once you find out
which KW's are making you money and which ones are costing you money.

Good luck

Yes, what i said was specifically for YSM and MSN. I don't use adwords, ditched them a long time ago. You'll notice the difference though it might take sometimes. Keep in mind that high CTR is to improve QS, thus having relevance ads/keywords also affect Quality Score(for YSM).
