looking for software to display announcements, schedules, maybe weather, maybe videos, etc on a lobby tv. I could use a media box, but I'd like something that "slides" could be created and updated easily, and controlled by schedules. I'm open to open source to <$500. Anyone have experience with something like this?

I have used a software called signage player by mediasignage. digitalsignage dot com. It can do all you need it to. It runs on Linux, Windows, Apple osx, Apple ios, android

At work we use sedna presenter for digital billboards and various configurations of flatscreens but it's mac only. ~sedna presenter | Products not sure if the cheaper versions meet your requirements.

You could do a lot of that with javascript and just display your html5 site on the tv/flatscreen.

I've used sencha touch to create some nice photo animations then have a php script that changes out the images in the folder the html5 is pulling from to make it dynamic. Also tons of easy scripts to pull weather/time/date/etc dynamically from feed/atom.

As a OOH provider, we have successfully used a mix of PADS4, HiperWall and more recently a customized HTML5 Solution.

I can speak very highly of PADS4 - their designer/scheduler modules are second to none. Also, they work brilliantly with input oriented campaigns such as touchscreens et al.

Sedna and Pads4 look good, Sedna's a bit expensive. I don't want to go html/powerpoint, I want someone that sits and answers phones with basic skills to be able to quickly create and schedule items. I have Western Digital media players that do that type of thing already, but I'm looking for something with more options.
