Hello can anyone please help a noob and refer me to some software programs that tells you how much your competition bids for keywords? I've heard mention of programs that let you do this by entering urls and keywords. My ads are not high enough in msn, yahoo and adwords - and rather than just giving them more than I want to for higher placement, i'd like to know exactly what my competition pays.

Thanks!

Adspypro would let you "spy" on your competitors' campaigns over a period of time so you could gather the best performing kws and ads.

No software can tell you what your competitors bids are. Furthermore, that is useless information even if you could get it because quality score is a big factor as well.

Spyfu.com

You can try SpyFu. I am not sure how accurate it is but I know they give competitor data, and it is free.

All of the programs that have been mentioned are programs for tracking your competitors KEYWORDS on Google's Search Network.

What program exists that allows you to track your competitors activity on Google's Content Network (aka: Placement Targeting)?

Three popular tools:
SpyFu
KeyCompete
Keywordspy

Keep in mind you may find some with very large keyword lists.
Don't think that a competitor with a large keyword list is actually
making money. They may be losing or breaking even. The keyword lists
from competitors should be looked at closely, since many will contain phrases
that you should NOT be bidding on because of their lack of relevancy.

You need to have:
1.) Targeted relevant landing pages that have the keyword in the title
H tags and in the body copy.
2.) Don't bid on broad or phrase match at first - use exact match type only eg. [keyword]
3.) You should be tracking the conversions (thank you page) as well as the keywords to see what converts.
4.) Split test your ads always! Use Winner Alert.

Adtrackz or a similar program can track the keywords.
Google can track you sales conversions.

Competitive analysis can give you an edge but you need to look at the big picture.

This is probably common knowledge to most of you, but thought it may help someone.

Good luck!

Peace,
O

Amen.

So you spy for a month, "think" you've found a killer new campaign, load it up and then....nothing.

Oh, you forgot, your account and their account are two very different things. So you end up testing all these wonderful keywords in your own account anyway, which you could have done from day one.

The quality score on my ppc campaigns are great, with min bids btw $0.05 - $0.15. The niche is financial related products so as we all know competition is high and keywords cost more. But even with a great QS my ads aren't high enough for my liking - in my opinion if you can't make it on to the front page you might as well kill your ppc campaign.

So, the only thing left to tweak is the bid price. How do you determine EXACTLY how high to place that bid - just enough to get you within 3 - 7 spot? Or do you just have to guesstimate and then tweak downward once you achieve the rank and see exactly how much you're paying (what I do now)?

Use these tools as a guide at best. Your brain is the best spy tool available for spying and competitive intelligence. I just saved you a few fucks...
