Just curious how people got started with all of this...

Personally it was "viral" for me (:p) I had a friend that had done it for awhile and he talked about it all the time. Although now, he has sold basically everything he had and is focusing more on school.

Anyways, I always spend tons of time on the internet/computer and I figured I would try to put my time to use.

I learned about making money on sitepoint, before then I just made random sites for fun.

Sitepoint has taught me lots... but having friends that are into seem to help a lot more for me. They can really answer my direct questions really fast.

My interest in web development started as a hobby. It was something I was interested in, and after finishing school I had the time to devote to it. Ive enjoyed it, and so Ive started to look into ways to do it as a living.

I've also looked into ways to do it as a living... like following in the foot steps on Jon! Haha... but I'm not taking it to serious just yet. I'm still young.

I also did a lot of Web development in school... I enjoyed it a lot, but never thought I would take it this far.

I was looking into different businesses, mainly selling shit on eBay. I was on a forum, this guy asked what advertising he should use for his website. I told him try out this thing called Adsense. Next day he sent me a message saying he had made over $100 in less than 24 hours. That was all I needed to know :)

Haha... people talking about making big money in short periods of time will always bring you in quick!

I was looking at some other things seveal years ago and came across Google Cash. I never bought it, still may sometime. It got me thinking about making money on the web.
I came across the idea of niche sites and blogs a few months ago and have been trying to get started that way since.

I have 4 sites now.

I started out on the web in 2000 when I was into digital artwork, like comic book/anime type stuff. Then as my skills in photoshop and other programs increased I moved on to designing logos for fun and a little side money. Learning how to make business cards, logos, and letterheads led me to sites on web design. I never realized the money making potential of it till I started to hangout at places like youngentrepreneur.com, sitepoint, and digitalpoint. And of course, from sitepoint I found Mook-Jon's $80,000 CJ thread. After that I was sure this is what I wanted to do. So here I am with my first site under my belt and more on the way. I'm trying to learn all I can, I want to succeed at this.

You sound quite motivated! Good luck!

When the free iPod thing was big I figured I would make a website to add my referral links to. Shortly after that, I found out about AdSense and the webmaster forums talking about making money using websites.

It started as a hobby of mine. Once I realized I could make money from it, I never stopped.

I've been working in the web development biz for a while now. I've seen a bit of success that my employer had (mostly just out of luck), so I figured I should give it a shot. I've mostly spent too much time reading stuff, and not much time just DOING it. So I'm setting out to change that bad habit.

Wierdly, I can't recall. At some point a had the notion that perhaps a could make a few dollars from this internet stuff and it snowballed from there.

In year 6 at school ppl came from a High School to teach the basics of websites (i had messed around with this really crappy free web page thing), and after i'd learnt some basic HTML i just googled the web found some good forums, and 4 years later i know a lot more :D

I started a Cincinnati Reds blog (baseball team) back in 2003, just for fun on Blogspot. I had no idea there'd ever be money in it, but a year or so later I got approached by someone wanting to buy text ads on the site. That was really the catalyst for me wanting to learn more, and I then started reading more blogs, forums, etc. and have started a number of sites in the past year.

Oddly enough in one of my high school classes I learned pretty much everything in HTML. I of course forgot most of it over the course of college, but always stayed interested.

At this point, I find myself interested in a lot of the technologies as well. As an ultimate goal, Im hoping to get a number of adsense type sites that generate a passive income, so I can just play all day :D

I got started with expedia pay per click, they paid 10 cents per click!

....this was before they monitored the IP addresses of the clicks :D SHHHH
