Hi,

Since I started on the internet (in terms of making money) I have come across many beliefs. 2 of the key ones that I have heard are diversify your sites (don't put all your eggs in one basket) and one big site is better. I am asking my question about the latter today

I am wondering, if I was to create multiple content sites, how would I go about that? Or more to the point how do you go about that?

Do you create a site, spend 2 weeks on getting it to $2-3/day and then move onto another site? Or do you just put it up and wait for it to hit that mark? Also, do you have to like the site or content you are creating, because after you have created 1,000's of site, you are bound to not like some.

Please enlighten a newb here.

Thanks,
Ben

I think the answer depends on your working style. Personally, I would start with the easiest site to build, get some content on it, launch it, send it a few links, and then start working on the next site.

For me alternating between tasks prevents me from burning out. Sitting down and writing for one week straight is a PITA, link building for a week even worse.

I recently started a group of sites that were similar but targeting different niches. By launching a single test site I was able to get an idea of how the other sites would work and then apply that knowledge to the new sites. If you crank all the sites out one after the other you'll miss out on that feedback.

Thanks Andrew, and what do you do when a particular site in your group of small sites is performing better than the others?

Do you isolate it from the group and spend more time on it till it reaches a certain point in earnings?

here is what I do .... build on a niche, move on to the next niche, evaluate in about 3 weeks to a month. I find if you do not continue to build then you get caught up in the B/S like bitching you are in the sandbox etc. Build and Build again.

I was just wondering about this too , since I`m contemplating launching a bunch of small sites for some niches I thought of recently.
The thing is that in these particular niches the amount of content is a bit limited. So I can try growing the site for around a couple of months maybe and then I`ll run out of new content. What do you do then? Just let the site age? Will a site that isn`t updated for months just be dropped down the SERPs?
What`s your strategy?

running multiple content driven sites is a huge PIA. Personally, I suggest starting a site, build it up to a nice size (traffic/revenue wise) then move on. It'll be alot easier to grow your other sites once you have a well established one.

Hello, sorry for my newbie questions, but what is the meaning of a PIA and a PITA?

I don´t really know what they mean.
THanks.

It's the truth. The more powerful your current sites are when it comes to PR, traffic volume, and respectability the easier it is to launch other sites successfully. You have a couple of domains with PR 5 that you link to your brand new site and you get a PR 4 easy without much effort. The higher results you get in search engines with this and simple SEO techniques alone is worth the effort. It makes you powerful regardless of how high quality your new site is or isn't. Not to mention you can barter with new link partners with your other high PR domains to accomplish even higher search engine results. Hell, having a high PR site alone is worthwhile simply because you can sell direct text links for mad bank if you play your cards right.

But I really don't give a shit about high PR ;)

If I have 100+ sites, I can just link with the most powerful and bang I have a PR that way. But who cares about PR now a days anyway :p

Anyway, back on track. Do you need to have adsense or ypn do make this work?

First of all PR is still important. If you care anything about ranking in search engines as stated then you better start caring. Also having a 100 site would be quite the undertaking. Plus having a network that big then PR would be essential if you were to want to sell off any of those sites later on.

Hell having a network that big with some decent PR ranking sites just the text links alone on about 10 decently ranking sites could bank you some great cash (as stated above). I hate how people just totally write off PR. It is still something that shouldnt be totally overlooked. Are there hacks and black hat stuff to it yea. The fact is it is still a part of the money making scene we are all in.
