Small sitemap question

Hi,
I have a main website XXX.com and blog sites as xxx.com/blog1 or xxx.com/blog2

Now the question is how many sitemaps do I require
I have currently 3 sitemaps
1) xxx.com/sitemap.xml
2)xxx.com/blog1/sitemap.xml
3)xxx.com/blog2/sitemap.xml




Is this write, as in when I update/ create posts in blog2 or blog2, only that sitemap will be updated, not others. So do I have to manually add for the others as well

No, you dont need to - use this: sitemaps.org - Protocol (and, maybe you will be fine with the three sitemaps as they are now - search engines should be aware of changes on every single one of them. Did you add them to Google Webmaster Tools?)

hi,
yes i have added them to webmaster tools, but the problem is that the blog sites' xml files are automatically updated with new content coz it is WordPress and i use a plugin. but the main xml file of the main site XXX does not get updated every time there is new content in the blogs (i do not think so at least).
so do i still nees 3 separate xml files?
