Anybody have it? A friend of mine was just diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea, and I'm thinking about going in for tests myself sometime soon.

I don't know anybody else who uses a cpap machine, so I was wondering if anybody on here does.

I tried a cpap machine for 30 days and found it to be annoying as hell.

Instead, with breathing exercises, you can strengthen the muscles in the upper airway.

I use a CPAP machine nightly, along with a fan that runs and makes a nice white noise effect.

Before I used the CPAP, I snored like mad. I'd wake up my wife every night, constantly. Now, not an issue. No snoring.

Losing weight usually helps. I used to snore a lot, but I lost 30 lbs and I sleep better and hardly ever snore anymore.

The white noise machine is unrelated, but my wife and I have used one for years. Great stuff. I want to try beach/rain forest sounds though.

There's supposed to be a surgery involving lasers (yay!) for the back of the throat to make the air passage larger. I think its related. Supposed to be unpleasant afterwards though.

well, we know who all the fat desk jockeys are here I guess, myself included.
I've had a cpap for little over a year now. you get used to it so it's not really a pain in the ass. I actually feel much more rested after a good nights sleep since the apnea doesn't wake me up throughout the night, which is what is happening. If you take the sleep study, you get hooked up to about 25 wires and they monitor you overnight. Usually, with sleep apnea, you 'wake up' over 40+ times throughout the night without even realizing it, so you don't really get proper sleep.

Now on to the next thread: lap band surgery

My husband was tested and had severe apnea. Got his tonsils and uvula out and got his sinus scraped to get out the hundreds of polyps out. Hurt like hell and healing time was a bitch but he's about 90 % normal now. Still snores alittle but it's light and he says the difference in his quality of rest is like getting an extra 3 hours sleep at night.

EDIT: He's 6 foot 3 and 180lbs so weight is not always the issue.

I'm 6'3" and weigh 165 lbs. Fuck you guys and your berries.

I'll just talk to the doc sometime later this week and schedule a sleep exam thing at the hospital. Hopefully it's nothing severe.

i just got over my sleep apnea about 6 months ago after having it for almost 2 years. Lost 10lbs started working out a bunch and its really helped. I never snored and its not necessarily a weight issue (i'm only 192lbs with hardly any fat). It can also be brought on by having insomnia for too long. I'm slowly getting rid of my insomnia to and working on getting up to the 5 hrs of sleep a day mark, i used to go over a week with less than 3 hours of sleep now I get at least 2-4 hrs/day although its not the greatest of sleep and I haven't had a dream in years. But fuck apnea, you wouldn't be ripping on it if you've ever had it. It sucks big time and it really really hurts! I'm just stoked I never had to go on the breathing machine thing.

My wife says that I stop breathing for what seems like an eternity to her and then i gasp for air and start snoring again. She is convinced that I have sleep apnea. She's probably right. Most likely stems from too many late nights on wickedfire or watching pron. Not sure which one. I definitely don't want to have to wear on of those Fighter Pilot masks to bed because that would suck. But, I can think of a thousand funny jokes to tell my wife with that dumb thing on.

Maam I need clearance for landing...
