I have been in web development and I.M. for 10 yrs now.

I have always had a full time job in the computer industry (network administration) to pay the bills. I have lots of down time and days off where I can focus on my web business.

- 5 yrs ago I bought a $10k domain name and developed a website for it thinking it will make me tons of money in return...I only make $150 a month off of it.

- 2 yrs ago I invested about $4k and built a restaurant directory website and tried to get restaurants to pay a membership fee. It only makes me $40 a month.

I dont make websites for other people, rather I makes websites for myself to make money for myself. after all these years I have a measley $200 coming in a month, better then nothing but I see no light at the end of the tunnell.

here is the kicker. My friend that is a network administrator...(cisco routers and switches) knows nothing about I.M. or web development.
He travels abroad every 3 months to a 3rd world country to screw chics and party.

earlier this year he came across an idea to make a website of the 3rd world city that he visits, showcasing the girls and bars. Being a computer guy he figured making a website cant be that hard.

He installed joomla and added a forum, photogallery and video gallery. pays about $40 a month for hosting and other fees.

every 3 months he goes the the 3rd world country and takes photos and video of the bars and girls. he uploads it to his website. After only 2 months of his website going live he has 800 members paying $9 a month subscription fees.

thats $7200 a month. He looks to be able to hit atleast 9000 members within one year.

thats freekin $81,000 a month that he will be making, while screwing chics, drinking lots of beer and traveling the world. While Im here doing freekin seo crap eating ramen.

I am efffin sick of not getting my piece of the pie.
 


no there are no other details. his paying members are other men world wide that visit that city and want to keep up with the happenings either in the forum or the photo and video gallery.

members to the website are posting their own pictures of girls and talking about their experiences in his forum. this is what keeps the membership going.

well, (a) you could give up and say you just don't have what it takes.. or (b) you could learn from your mistakes and try new things. whichever option sounds the most intelligent, go for it ;)

honestly you've only tried 2 projects over the course of 5 yrs? you will have more failures than success.
 
so you have the technical skills but sucks at ideas and marketability and he's great at marketability but suck at the technical stuff?

Sounds like a partnership.
 
yeah, out the domain name... I bet you'll get 20 responses with better business plans than the one you're currently running.
 
Sounds like you need to go back to basics and see if you can do one website for one offer. Honestly it sounds kind of silly to me to go and spend 10 G's on a domain name as your first project.
 
He probably goes overseas to fuck underage girls and is telling other people how to do the same for $9 a month. Typical Thorlson Method.
 
if you can't make a decent income online YOU AREN'T FUCKING TRYING

especially if you have a skill like (i assume decent) web design

Err this.

Why not sell the 10k domain (i assume for more.. hopefully)

then read some basic shit here and then re-invest that 10k into other internet marketing adventures.
