Richard Littlehale - wants cops to be able to read your text messages.

Cops: U.S. law should require logs of your text messages | Politics and Law - CNET News
"The law enforcement proposal would require wireless providers to record and store customers' SMS messages -- a controversial idea akin to requiring them to surreptitiously record audio of their customers' phone calls -- in case police decide to obtain them at some point in the future.

"Billions of texts are sent every day, and some surely contain key evidence about criminal activity," Richard Littlehale from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will tell Congress, according to a copy (PDF) of his prepared remarks. "In some cases, this means that critical evidence is lost. Text messaging often plays a big role in investigations related to domestic violence, stalking, menacing, drug trafficking, and weapons trafficking."

"ECPA changes expand government surveillance powers over e-mail messages, Twitter direct messages, and Facebook direct messages in some ways, while limiting it in others. A Google representative is also testifying."

It's like anchor diversity on the :angrysoapbox_sml: campaign.
I am sure some of the resident anarchists and libertarian leaning WF members will not be happy.

inb4 new US drone models bomb you but leave your cell/computer intact.

I can't speak for anyone else but I personally expect to see news like this on a daily basis. Government expands its power to control and coerce, it expands it's assumed legal authority to imprison, extort and initiate violence. That's, by definition, what they do.

If news of any of the above happening made me unhappy, everyday would suck.

Also, they can already read your text messages without a warrant. Carriers are known for selling this information.

No Warrant, No Problem: How The Government Can Still Get Your Digital Data - ProPublica

I already assume that any communications I make on my cell or online can easily be read and traced back to me.

The one thing about Government that I'm constantly in awe of is how the majority of people that they ass-rape daily (everyone) love and will defend them to the death.

The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system, and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.

True that, I am afraid no one will wake up until it is too late. I see the indigenous people of the world who have never relied on anything besides their knowledge passed down from generation to generation being the last humans around. Some of us will be around and be learning from them later on.

sorry but for some odd reason that is only available to the .gov

Pursuant to Federal law at 47 U.S.C. 302a, this product is available only for use by the Government of the United States or any agency thereof. Other interested parties are urged to contact appropriate regulatory oversight entities to determine whether any additional exceptions or arrangements have been authorized and implemented to permit use of this product consistent with controlling law.

Can you recommend something that a civilian can legally use to encrypt their cellular calls, and sms msg's?

Ill be anxiously awaiting your response. LOL

You haven't see all yet. I was born at the times when communists invigilation was on its high. They didn't need all that fancy spying systems or technical control (which they had anyway).

They installed spies inside the society. They broke any weak character in any social group or institution. We had spies in churches, schools, universities, factories, army, police and government itself. People became paranoid. No strong anti free speech regulations were needed anymore, people censored themselves. There was no trust among the neighbors, friends or sometimes even families.

Most people will never be ready to be unplugged. They are not part of the system - they are creators of this system. This system is a reflection of their desires and needs which are fulfilled on your expense.

They are not injured by the system. It is them and them alike who created it in the past and were enforcing it and enforce it every single day. Don't be mistaken you've opened eyes of a statist because he suddenly opposes one or the other action of a government. They support and will always support the foundations of the system you don't accept.

Apple already has a patent that allows them to disable your iphone's camera and can target by location as well.
