I think photos would keep users around a little bit longer and they might click an ad. In the USA, is there a way to legally reuse photos from other sites, either through showing from another site or through download and reupload (as long as sources are mentioned)?

What if the photos were recropped a little -- issue there as well?

I came across this site the other day. You cannot get the full photos for free but the previews after signing up are not watermarked. All Photos are also royalty free so I believe that you can use them anywhere.

I don't want to be a spammer or some obsessive-compulsive douchebag, however, you click that little button that increases my reputation. Because, you know, reputation is proportional with size of penis...

Apropo of the topic, there was a post at Techcrunch the other day about the Richter Scales, the group that did the new Tech Bubble 2.0 video. They got a C&D from the photographer who took the picture of Michael Arrington contained in the video. She put the picture in her Flikr stream, they grabbed the photo and used it, and she didn't like it.

Here's the link...

Fair Use Vs. Free Speech in the Internet Age: The Lane Hartwell Problem

It's an interesting discussion of fair use, and how the law is lagging behind common internet practice, which has come to consider almost anything in Flikr fair game.
