Ok I'm going to try something unique here. I'm going to document the redesign/development of one
of my fitness sites. Now I have others, but this one is a good example of a site with potential, but
really neglects obvious factors that are a necessity in good conversions.
The purpose of making this "redevelopment journal" public is to both help & *be helped*. I intend to
track & display every detail of this process, including traffic & conversion statistics both before and
after the redevelopment.
I have a few goals in mind
- Analyze the current site and note the potential improvements
(this process is already for the most part complete)
- Redesign the site with the new improvements in mind
(this will also require carefully documented considerations of usability and general design technique.)
- Develop multiple landing pages & tours for conversion testing
(I will display real-time traffic and conversion statistics for each landing page.)
Site Information
Industry: Fitness / Fitness Training / Health
Name: FitPractical
URL: fitpractical.com
Description: FitPractical is an online fitness training service that offers members several useful
features. A custom written eBook, client/trainer message system, dynamic fitness journal & 60+ custom
written bonus articles. The goal is to help members both lose fat, and build muscle (depending on the
clients' goals) through real fitness training methodology. In order to become a member, the visitor must
signup and pay a monthly recurring fee. The fee at this point is up in the air.
How this will work
I will start with the very first step, which is analyzing the current site. This means finding the obvious
flaws and coming up with a game plan that will result in the highest possible conversions. I will take all
of my own research and feedback that others have given me and organize it to correspond with a
new design.
The second step will be to take that feedback and begin a new design. I will post screenshots of
the design as it progresses (I will have to either watermark them or scale them down so people can't
steal). I will also note reasoning for each design element / update.
The third step of course will be conversion testing and throwing traffic at it.
I will attempt to cover the first step within one single post, posting all of the feedback I've received
along with screenshots of the current site that correspond with the feedback. That way we'll
have a physical representation of flaws and improvements.
The Stats at the top of this thread
As you can see, there are a few graphical buttons I've created that provide stats about the site I'm
redeveloping. First is awstats, second is a custom stats program I wrote awhile ago (I only started
tracking it a few days ago so if you sort the date back too far, you won't get much data). The
others are just quick accessible links.
