Ranking For The Main Keyword: Homepage VS Subpage??

I have wondered about this for a long time now...

Do you guys find that it is harder to rank a SUBPAGE for a main keyword, compared to ranking the homepage?

It seems to me that it has always been easier to rank the homepage of a website rather than a subpage.

However, in some cases (IE: when using brand name physical product keywords) it makes more sense to try to rank a SUBPAGE rather than the homepage (and would look better if you get MANUALLY reviewed by google, which is very common nowadays).

What do you guys think? Is is stupid to use a subpage for a main keyword?

And this is assuming you are using a new , not an aged domain. I am pretty sure that with an AGED domain it is stupid to use anything OTHER than the high PR homepage to rank for a main keyword.

Not sure,I'm very very newbie and interested in this subject too.I own a long tail niche keyword which used to be popular for a while but right now people are not interested in that keyword anymore so I have to find new keywords.I would to ask someone who knows if I can rank this new keyword made on new page or just post new ones?(in wordpress) is it gonna be totally different result? I allow SEO expert to PM me for their services

well its quit understood the main keywords should be lie on to the main page because its the main page which mostly viewed by the audience and the sub page will be viewed when some person like your main page and found some thing interesting according to his/her needs

Well, there is nothing wrong with optimizing your sub page for the main keywords. I would also keep the main keywords for the homepage, and put the link to the discussed sub page on the main page.

It's best to rank an internal page for a keyword. You get more chances to sell your product. I like keeping the main page for a few keywords.

But consider this scenario. You are busy building an authority site in your niche. Your home page can only have a limited number of keywords. Changes in trends in your industry also will make things a bit tough there. So by default, you will be better served ranking internal pages.

To help out your homepage, just add a link on your post to the homepage with the anchor text. That should build you a nice authority site where both the home page and the internal pages can rank.

apam> authority Link>internal page>homepage>repeat

i try to build my links to my inner pages and rank for a set group of keywords and then have my main/harder keywords for the main domain.
