Purchasing Databases? Resources?

Hi all,

Besides DigitalPoint's constant database offers of mostly the same databases, is there a solid resource or website that offers databases free or for a fee?

Searching google for this is very tedious because most of the results are for database conversion software, database optimization, blah blah.

BTW, no particular subject really, looking for all databases. The majority of databases available on DigitalPoint seems to be contact names and addresses which I am not really in need of.

Well, thought I'd ask anyway. Thanks.
 


There was another thread on WF that said those DBs had a lot of useless content in them... but I'll check it out.
 
I bought a DB from oddity for Realtors, was relatively cheap if I remember correctly. Alot of the information is indeed useless, depending on your purpose. Alot of it is just filler that I have considered removing, for instance, lat and long coordinates (Would be good for Google Maps I guess) and just other random info....
 
4MySQL.com has a bunch of databases for cheap as well. I have purchased form them before, and although some are pretty useless (the recipe one, for example, was terrible), but I have purchased a Kentucky yellowpages one that is pretty up-to-date.

I don't know of too many database sellers out there, other than the ones constantly sold on DP.
 
why not start emailing people who possibly own such a database? if you are looking for special treatment make a special commitment
 
Yeah, 4MySQL sells on DP. Heh. bwb, good point, although nobody has ever shared anything like this with me before. They all come with a price tag.

If I find a site with a really simple structure, that's just displaying out a database, though, I usually scrape it myself. Very easy and much cheaper lol...

Like if a site listed drink recipes and had a page structure like:

site.com/tea.php?id=23

I would just open each ID and scrape the page.
