Prosper202 On Cloud Server?
Anyone ever done this, is it bad, good ?

Planning on going with 1and1 and using their recommended for Database applications.

the cloud order page -

I been using Tracking202 PRO and its costing me way to much for the service I am getting and the missing features that Prosper202 has.

Going by 1and1's page it doesn't look like it would be any different than any other VPS provider. Calling it "cloud" instead of VPS is just marketing.

What I like about the plan is that I can change the hardware when ever without having to make migration.

But I used 1and1 for about 7 months now with their basic dedicated and never had any noticable down time

lol sounds like some spam testimonials but foreal why do you guys not like 1and1 ? they are cheapest I found so far for Dedicated Hosting

I always thought cloud meant server clusters

Now i google it and find out refers to user created content? thats stupid

We run P202 on 'cloud' stuff all the time. 'Cloud' essentially just means 'scalable across many servers' (but many times, people simply use it to refer to resizable VPS servers that can be grown manually or automatically with demand). When we need a new P202 cluster, we start with a single Amazon VPS (running both apache+php and mysql), and as traffic increases, we launch more servers -- first, a dedicated mysql server, then if we need more power a dedicated memcache server, then we can start adding apache+php servers (hosting the Prosper files) one by one. Haven't yet needed more than just the memcache server yet :)

The only difference between this 'cloud' setup and a traditional dedicated server rack is that we're not shy about launching new servers, because we can bring them online with <1minute delay, and we only pay for what we use (by the hour, with Amazon EC2). If we paid $xxx/mo for dedicated servers, we'd sqeeze as many applications on a server as we can, and pray no single app brings the whole server down as we ramp up traffic, but in the cloud, everything gets a tiny, tiny VPS that we can grow to a massive server farm in relatively no time.

I do something similar to uplinked but on rackspace cloud servers (NOT cloud sites).

@uplinked, do you add new servers manually or do you go through the API? Do you use anything like chef to do the server setup? I've been looking into it cause I'm REALLY tired of sshing into each new instance to setup apache, mysql, iptables, etc etc etc again and again.

The cheapest solution is typically not the one you want to go with, especially when it comes to servers...
