I read a while ago that Google has problems filtering spammy sites hosted on .cn domains and is trying to find ways to solve this issue that might negatively affect ranking of all .cn domains.

Does anyone know more about this?

It won't affect your SERPs with .cn domains. I know it from personal experience although I hate to disclose any proof here. IMHO, it's completely safe to seriously work with a .cn domain site as you do with a .com

2 Questions real quick if you don't mind. I'll keep them general as possible.

1)Were you ranking them in the U.S, or China?
2)Were the methods used sketchier, or were they solid WH(ish) links?

+1

I have 2 .cn domains myself, one ranks #7 for it's main keyword (electronics) and the other is at #16 (finance) which isn't bad considering both are less than 6 months old. Ranking with a .cn (or any other TLD) is no different than trying to rank with a .com, just build backlinks and add good content.

1)With most of my sites, I don't normally target any particular region of the world. Same is the case here, I just posted that reply based on the ranking I have in Google.com for its primary keyword.
2) All are perfect WhiteHat SEO methods (I am not a SEO guru though, LOL).
..... Unique content, some quality links.

Personally i'd just stay the fuck away from .cn's.

& I don't feel i need to expalin why.

I would agree there is no point to use .cn names. I don't think there is any benefit from using .cn names; I would actually rather use .info names. Or at least use something more common or recognizable.

.info ftw!
Can't beat 99 cents.
