Hi,

I am starting a site targeted at US-based customers. I am thinking of starting with Paypal and directly accepting creditcards later. Does anyone have any experience how many people are willing to use Paypal to pay with their credit card? My site is aimed at the averge user, not expecially tech-savy. Probably a lot of average women.

At the moment I'm a little bit sceptically if Paypal is well accepted...

Kind regards, Hans

I use Paypal only at this point, and it was especially nice because you CAN accept credit cards through Paypal without the person having to sign-up for a Paypal account.

Do you find Paypal turns potential customers off your site because they don't see it as being as "professional" as a payment gateway/merchant account system or is this just a myth that seasoned webmasters have put about?

I haven't had that happen to me, and I've been using them for about 5+ years now, 3 or so exclusively.

Unfortunatly the express-checkout option for non-members is not availible for subscription-based payments, which I offer.
I think I wil start with a service like CCBill, where I don't need my own merchant account.

Kind regards, Hans

You can customize your payment page under merchant tools so it doesn't look like generic white page with just paypal logo. Look in to this.. pretty cool.

I also recommend 2checkout.com as well, some merchants put both options: paypal & 2checkout logos for people to choose from. 2checkout does charge hefty fees as paypal.

Now we have google checkout! definitely plus :) love getting $10 free transaction fee credit for using $1 in adwords.

Ouch... I have just been rejected by CCBill. Isn't this the company that works with just any small porn-site? :) Well anyway... Seems that the overall "contest/sweepstake"-theme of my site is not acceptable to most credit card processors. I hope to find a payment processor soon...

Regards, Hans
