Now that Google's Pagespeed Insights has changed can anyone here tell me where I might find the timeline where you can drill down and see exactly what is loading where and when? I might just be having a "blind" day today but I can't find it.

It's the first time I've really used Pagespeed since the change. It seems better in some ways but appears they've removed some useful features.

Cheers Adam - that's the one: Network tab of the plugin.

I was being a donkey then - I forgot it's in the browser extension... it used to be on the web version under a tiny button labelled 'critical path' too.

The Network tab is just something built into Chrome Dev tools, you don't need the page speed plugin for it.

TBH I'm a long standing FF user and tend to do most of my dev in it with Firebug. Only really used Chrome for forums / general shit, but I'm getting quite fond of it's debug.

It took me a while at first but now I actually prefer the chrome dev tools. It probably helps that chrome is so much faster than Firefox so I am less irritated overall while using it

I have a stigma switching to Chrome for dev.

What was the tipping point for you?

Mainly speed. Firefox is just slow and heavy feeling. Chrome is nice and quick, plus their dev tools kick ass, plus for Angular there's Batarang which runs in Chrome.

I just feel like Chrome gets out of my way, whereas Firefox is clunky enough still to slow me down at points.

I prefer GTMetrix to PageSpeeds. The reporting features are more robust, and it's not owned by Google.

I'm also a recent convert. I'd been half assing the switch for a while without committing to either. Chrome has fixed some speed issues in the last year which made the dif.

Yeah I use Chrome mainly. The only thing I can't figure out is how to see the request params for a failed ajax call. Firebug displays that very nicely.

Whether a request succeeds or fails, it's all in the Network tab once you select a request:

YSlow for Firefox isn't that bad too.
But yeah, FF is getting slower and slower and I'm thinking of switching to Chrome too.

The only thing keeping me in Firefox is the "feel" of Firebug.

My main gripe about FF is how it downloads/installs/updates so much junk every single time I start it up. I'm sure there's a way to turn it off under options, but isn't that the point of trying to create a svelte, open source upstart to challenge IE & Chrome? K-I-S-S
