Hello,

I have had hundreds of domains over the years but I've never registered a .org until yesterday. It's for a site that I want to seem official. I worked on the site all day yesterday and finished it up this morning and I'm ready for it to go live so that I can start promoting it. I've set everything up as I've always done for my .com domains, set privacy protection and changed the DNS info. I've also set up everything correctly at the hosting service but the site isn't coming up. I wonder if .org takes longer to propagate than the other extensions. Can someone please elaborate?

Thank you.

Thank You Hfgreg!

I registered the .org at the same registrar that I have numerous (as in 50+) other domains with. I was embroiled in the RegisterFly meltdown mess and I will no longer lease all my domains thru one registrar. Currently I'm using four different ones and they are all reputable.

If this thing doesn't propogate by tomorrow I'll simply register another similar domain and move forward.

Thanks again. I really appreciate your reply :)

To the best of my knowledge, .org takes no longer to propagate than any other TLD. Sometimes your request can get "lost", and you just need to resubmit the changes. I wouldn't abandon the domain for another one just because the nameservers aren't changing correctly though...

Thank You Dave. It's a really great domain name (contains highly searched type-in words) and the .com and .net. etc extensions were available, I registered .org because the website is supposed to give the impression of being "official" kind of like a govt agency. I don't intend to abandon the .org name but I can address the slowness of the domain propagation in a couple of days, right now I'm just raring to start promoting the site cause it's going to be a money maker, I just know it. Plus I need to get this finished up as I have another website project that needs to be finalized by tomorrow night. Thanks for the info, I'm going to re-do the DNS submission right now and wait some more. Maybe I'll pray about it before I crash. Grateful for your help :)

If I were you I'd register the .com and redirect it to your .org or someone else will reg it and profit off your hard work by getting free traffic when people mistakenly go to the .com instead of your .org.

Thank You Dave. Great advice.

Update on the problem - right after I registered the domain I selected to make the whois contact information private. Unbeknownst to me at the time was that privacy is not an option for .org domains, and the setting caused some sort of a conflict/glitch. Everything has been resolved and the site is now live.

Thanks again for y'alls help.
