I have just started using cj. I am using them because it's easy to set up. Anyway, I have a delema, or so I think. What do you guys think about these numbers.

5,500 impressions
4 clicks
0.00 sales

These are the numbers from today alone. And the ads are on a website, not wp or anything like that.

Is that shitty, or about right for them. Oh, the big thing you guys probably want to know is this is myspace traffic from ppc, not from myspace itself, just the type of traffic. Or is it maybe the ads themselves, try something new? Thanks for the input in advance.

I hear your pain, those numbers aren't so good to say the least. A number of factors effect click through rate and conversions. Is the merchant you're advertising paying per sale or per lead? Is it for a niche website? Does your site demographic match the merchant? If you're using JUST a banner to advertise your sponsor, that may be part of the problem. We are a network somewhat similar to CJ (with even some identical merchants) and we recommend to all of our affiliates that they do NOT rely solely on banners. Text links work well; add some in and maybe even give a personal review or recommendation for the merchant you are advertising. This is what all the big affiliates do to see fantastic conversions. I think if you give it a try, you'll be pleasantly surprised! :)

If you're just sending them random untargetted traffic, you're going to get very low conversions. I started out doing aff stuff a couple of years ago, and then pretty much gave up until recently because I didn't "get" the importance of finely targetting the traffic.

you are surprised that a banner ad sucks? people don't look at those things and have not for years! make the link stand out somehow and do a little presale of the item or service. If all you are willing to do is put up a link on a site then do not be surprised if you don't get any sales. I see posts like this on every message board. People read it and think hell this business sucks! but waite, what did you do to sell the item? this aint the field of dreams, if you build it they aint going to cum and buy, you have to tell them to buy!

You don't really need to do away with the banners alltogether, just in case they do lead to some revenue for you, but I am glad to hear you're trying out the text links. That should make a marked difference.

You can't look at those numbers and say "is this good or bad", it completely depends on what product you are selling!

If you are selling Ferrari's then maybe you'll get a ton of clicks but .0001% are actually going to buy. If you're selling shaving cream, your conversion rate will probably be much better. Numbers make no sense in less you put them in the context of what you're selling and how.

gillian, you must work for maxbounty so of course you would post the bullshit that banners work! BANNERS SUCK, PEOPLE DON'T LOOK AT THEM!

I had some cj banners up on my myspace sites and got close to 100k impressions and around 100 clicks with no conversions. Then I got creative with one and put a sentence that told them why they should go there right above a 300x300 banner and I've made $20 off that in a couple weeks.

'tis true, I do. And from a customer standpoint I don't look at banners either; I agree that they suck. But if even one person clicks the banner then you get a little bit of money and isn't that what we're all in this for? If no one uses banners, cool. But they can't make you anything if they're not there.
