Hi fellers, I know there have been a few threads about this before. I just wanted to know about people's experiences with nootropics, not necessarily argue about it. I'm considering using something like Piracetam to help me learn programming and be more productive.

So if you've been using nootropics, how has it affected you? Any side effects? How long did you use for? Thanks

I'm with insomnia on this. I bounced off the fuckin walls as a kid. Put on Ritalin in 4th grade. I've since taken Dexedrine, Cylert, Strattera, and now prefer Adderall. Each has side effects - I'm already a night owl and if I put any kind of stimulant in my body its very difficult for me to go to sleep, even with the very low dosage of Melatonin I take every night. Also, if I take a stimulant, mr. happy no worky. So its like I have to choose between high productivity and getting laid - I can have only one for the day. Strattera was the worse though - about twice a day I would randomly feel like I had blue balls. Just random agonizing pain in the nads. Got off that shit quick.

So I'm just wondering if people have experienced negative side effects from these. And if so, do the costs outweigh the benefits?

I'm on dexidrine and have been for a while. I tried testing piracatem with choline and didn't notice much of a difference. I went through a whole bucket before I decided to can it. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

I would love to hear other's thoughts on this too.

Currently expecting my first batch of piracetam and choline.
I've experimented with modafinil (modalert, provigil) to increase focus and decrease daytime sleepiness, and it does work. But it also clamps down on the imagination and acts as a pretty powerful appetite suppressant. The productivity boost was nowhere near as strong as I had hoped.
The same goes for 1,3 Dimethylamylamine, though the side effects are less noticable. But it seems to make me sleepy, which is pretty much the opposite of what I expected.

Piracetam definitely works for me, and studies back its safety and efficacy. I don't mix it with choline... I don't get headaches from Piracetam and haven't seen studies that back it enough for me to try (feel free to convince me otherwise).

For me, Piracetam makes me "anxious to do work". That's the best I can explain it. It's not a stimulant or depressant. It just gets me kinda riled up and wanting to zone in.

Here's my dosing and timing schedule. I need to be in a habit now that I'm full-time IM. Note that I'm a morning person and don't need caffeine til about 10AM, and I'm also a fitness guy. I am doing VERY well working/exercising on a fasted protocol.

Wakeup 7AM
- Mix about 10-15g flavored BCAAs, ~3g creatine, and 1g piracetam powder. Shake it up..
- Take 1g of piracetam, put on tip of tongue, and slam it back with a sip of my mix, trying to avoid my bitter receptors as much as possible. It's bitter, but powder is so much cheaper than capsules
- Get hustlin and sip on my BCAA/creatine/piracetam throughout the morning. As I'm on an empty stomach, the BCAAs keep my muscles from eating themselves.

By 10AM, I'm starting to get a caffeine withdrawal irritation/headache. At this point, I mix up 10-15g more BCAAs (unflavored) and Jack3d, start sipping, and get my ass to the gym or in the ocean to work out or surf. I leave a bit of Jack3d in the container and sip on that throughout the workout.*

Immediately after the workout, whey protein isolate.

- By 11:30-12, I'm back home. Shower, eat real meal (my first of the day), maybe a dash more caffeine and 1,3 dimethylamylamine, and get hustling til 3:30.

- 3:30pm = NAP! This is my natural crash time and I don't fight nature. Protein or snack before this nap helps me.

- 5pm - Wake up, maybe some more caffeine, read the news and message boards, get my grog off. No more 1,3 allowed this late for me. Blast 2g piracetam down. Make some dinner...
- 6-8pm - More hustling.
- 8pm+ ... read, TV, chillax, do some research, write a bit, but no pressure.

* leaving Jack3d or any creatine drink in water for too long is bad idea though. The creatine will break down into creatinine.

what the hell, how do you do any work in between leaving the house to work out and napping?

Hahaha no I'm too busy looking at my biceps in the mirror ;)

Working hours = 7-10, 12-3:30, 6-8:30ish. 8:30pm can easily turn into 11:30 without noticing on an intense day.

I'm just saying, Piracetam works great on an empty stomach for me in this protocol.
