So I have a domain and hosting but now I need a keyword amirite?
My domain is 2 words and I went to Google adwords and typed in a 2 word phrase similar to my domain name and it has around 20k global monthly searches and about 10k local monthly search. Low competition Is that good? What do I do now? I think I'm going the blog route

Did you make sure you checked "exact match" and not broad. That's one of the top mistakes I see people make. Also, always do keyword research before buying a domain name and you'll save yourself a lot of money.

Exact Match Domains (EMDs) are good, but not mandatory imo.

Actually, they can be restrictive, in that, if the slightest mistake is
made during the selection process, tough shit, you can not change
your domain name.

Plus, you can only have one keyword phrase in the EMD, even tho
most traffic might come from various related search queries.

Otoh, a generic domain name, such as, erpieswvb.com could still target
all your keywords:

erpieswvb.com/running-shoes
erpieswvb.com/hiking-boots
erpieswvb.com/ladies-shoes
erpieswvb.com/shoes-for-kids
erpieswvb.com/mens-shoes

The advantage is that, if somewhere down the road, you decide that you no
longer want to sell shoes, you can still use the domain name to sell something else:

erpieswvb.com/wedding-cakes
erpieswvb.com/wedding-songs
erpieswvb.com/wedding-music
erpieswvb.com/wedding-invitations
erpieswvb.com/wedding-oaths

So, while EMDs are good, let's not get stuck on them as if all else is certain death.

Think out of the box.

As others have said you really should have done your keyword research before you bought the domain. Being new it could make it impossible for you to rank whichever keyword you chose, which would be a huge waste of time. On the other hand, if you did your research and found yourself an easy to rank keyword it would allow you to find success much faster.

Keyword research is Fist Thing to start any Online Business...So you should do Keyword Research First Then Go With Domain and other things.

Thanks.

I want follow this up by saying that there is almost certainly some benefit to having your domain name being at least somewhat related to whatever keywords you're targeting, otherwise everyone would just make domains like "allabouteverything.com" and target every keyword with search volume that exists.

But heck, if I'm wrong, then brb registering mikeshinobispot.com and selling shoes, dildos, prosciutto and mail order brides.

Help with keyword research

I am the author of the video below. Thanks to KeepSuth for the kind recommendation.

I have created a keyword research tutorial here.

This guide is detailed and of course free without sign up.
This guide will explain where you went wrong and what you should have done instead.

Keyword research or market research should always be you first step.
Only when you can validate your market should you consider proceeding with building a site.

So you already have your domain? You should have determined what keywords you were going to go after before you purchased your domain and your domain should be somewhat based around the keywords that you choose.
