Hey bud;

I was an affiliate manager up until a couple of weeks ago, and trust me, the hardest thing you will have to do is recruit new affiliates. Until you have a solid base you aren't making any money and neither is the company (on you, I mean).

First, you need to know what you CAN offer your affiliates. For example, don't offer weekly or biweekly payouts if your network won't do it, or don't offer higher payouts if you can't get them. In reality, an affiliate really only wants two things:

+ Reliability and consistency - So long as you're a good AM this won't be a problem.

+ To be paid on time, every time - Again, so long as you offer this, no problem.

Approach affiliates with an attitude of mutual respect. You have a good offer, so offer to let them run it. If it does well they'll run stuff from you again. If you help them make an extra $500 a day, why wouldn't they? Get them good campaigns (that aren't saturated yet) and they will work with you until the end of time.

That being said, PM me. I'm interested.

Hey, at least he is honest. A good AM trait :)

Keep up good communication and if your affiliates ask for something, get it done quickly.

Yes...i am an honest being. The good thing is, there was already a pretty big affiliate network set up when i came to the company. The marketing director needed some help with this channel on top of the other million things he HAS to do. He said his goal for me was for me to be invited to speak at Affiliate Summit 09...i was like Gee, let me think, nah! But who knows, if i truly felt i had something to offer to other people, then i would surely speak somewhere. It just seems like that would be so far away...Plus i have to remember that i am ENTRY LEVEL and i am receiving ENTRY LEVEL pay...It can only go up from here....this is my first blogging experience and its great.. I get the same feeling when i read posts as when im watching one of my ebay auction items end, seeing how many bids i get the last minute!!!!

Quick Question...I tried to repost in the "quick Reply" does this show up? Anyways, ill repeat what i said in my quick reply. When i came to the company , there was already a big affiliate network set up. The marketing director needed some help cause he had a million and one things that he was working on. That is when i decided to come along and play the affiliate manager game. It was an entry level job so it seemed right for me, and it happened to be five minutes from my house. His goal for me is to be asked to speak at Affiliate Summit 09. Not sure how thats gonna work out, but what the hell ill give it a try if i have to. And the most important part, this is one of the only companies i could find in the Philly Area that would give a fresh grad a job....It took me about 7.5 months to land a job..."ALTHOUGH WE ENJOYED YOUR QUALIFICATIONS, WE HAVE WENT WITH SOMEONE WHO BETTER SUITS OUR NEEDS FOR THE JOB. WE WILL KEEP YOUR RESUME...and so on..."

On that note, this is my first experience on blogging and its great. I related it to how eBay makes me feel...when i have an auction ending and that excitement of watching how many bids you will get in the last minute...its the same way with getting posts! So keep it up guys, i appreciate any kind of anything you can give to me.

Ha...pepperjam...i tried to make a deal with those guys but their communication skills suck. We had deals set up, then they changed the terms at the last minute in the fine print...I am an online Merchant...no pepperjam for me!

Hey man, I am in the same boat as you. With the exception that I've been at it for about 4 months and I was given a startup network. For me the hardest part at first was weeding through crappy campaigns and learning what was actually valuable to my affiliates. So when someone is trying to sell you hard on a "Hot Exclusive" feel free to scan the other networks for higher payouts and see if they are full of it. Straight shooters are hard to come by. PM me if you want to look around the network I built out. Best of luck!

This was of course in their early stages....has anybody worked with them on here? Everything sounds good on paper, but is it a good network in reality?
Everyone seems young over there...

wow. an affiliate manager that doesn't know what they're doing. how did you even get in the biz?

LOL I hope you're being sarcastic. Most AM's had little/no experience with the industry before they became a AM.

Appreciate the comments....so heres a broad question...After i do reporting and check numbers on my daily affiliate status, and then after i check out some blogs, and then even after i do some "recruiting", what else do i do as an Affiliate manager to fill up the day? R there any fulltime A.M's out there that can say...."Well, this is what an Affiliate Manager is supposed to do for an entire day.........."

One thing I hate is when I'm talking to an AM about what new offers are coming up and I ask for a list of what they think is going to be hot and I specifically state I don't want ringtones or dating...and what do I get a list of? Ringtones and dating...the irony behind that is I never run that shit and they would know that if they payed attention.

^Whenever I get a new AM I will ask this and state what I don't run. I had only one ever return results that didn't included ringtones & dating.

Joescar...

There are many things that will occupy your time thru out the day. They will become very apparent as time goes on. I have been a full time Affiliate Manager for over 4 years now(2 years in Adult and 2+ years in mainstream).

One of my biggest grudges as an actual affiliate is that more times than not, your AM will not truly know their product. It’s horrifying when they don’t know and just guess …This makes things much more difficult and just overall aggravates me. With that said, the first thing that you should be doing is assessing your own internal offer(s). The more you know about your product and how different forms of traffic and promotion methods affect conversions, the better you will be able to help your affiliates fine tune and tweak.

Along the same lines, the second thing that you should be doing is to assess your affiliates traffic, sites, campaigns etc. Try to find patterns or other info that will help you, help your affiliates be successful.

On a final note, you should be benchmarking/comparing other similar offers. You must know your competitions offers and how they perform, payout, etc.

If you need anything, feel free to hit me up.
