Look up water fasting. On average people lose 1 pound per day but in the beginning, it's not uncommon to see a 3 lb drop daily.

I vary 6 lbs throughout the day. Wen in the water I can loose 1 lbs an hour. Never tested that longer then 4 hrs though.

How's it related to his metabolism? Most the weight will be water loss. He's not getting enough fluid.
