I found a great domain name but the .com is owned by a small, refurb shop. My site will be news, articles and hopefully set-up ebay auctions on. Will it be ok in the long run for me to buy the .net if it's available? will the .com being a crappy site hurt my site?

ha ha they will probably be more worried that you are setting up an affiliate site on the .net lol

i can't see that being a problem for you

Thnkx, they are Copyright © 2005 - 2010 Guitar "xxxx" Ltd. E&OE. They are based in London and I don't see any trademark material. Does the copyright seal the name or just their site?

NWCougar, anybody can put that copyright label there. It's recommended even if you don't have one - just to show, if necessary, in a court of law that the company had a 'copyright' label on correspondence, website, etc. Whether they actually have one can be looked into further. If it's a generic name you should be ok. You can pm me for my thoughts, fwiw.
