I watched the last few shuttle launches out of Cape Canaveral before they cancelled the shuttle program and they were pretty cool, especially the night launches. With rockets there usually isn't a lot to see.

In other news, privately-funded Mars One is hoping to colonize Mars by 2023. Apparently, 165,000 folks have already applied to join the one-way trip, a number that unfortunately falls short of the 1 million hoped-for applicants.

And funding may be a challenge. Mars One may fail to get the needed $6 billion for the first trip. But then again, they've already started to attract sponsors. So, who knows?

As for NASA, they still take the phrase "shoot for the moon" seriously. lol
