I don't personally use Namecheap, so I'm asking here. How long does it normally take for the nameserver registration to propagate? I'm not talking about changing nameservers for a domain, I'm talking about actually registering new nameservers, as seen here: NameCheap.com - Demo: Creating your own nameservers (Interactive Demos) - Knowledgebase

I've had two clients this week who are having insanely long delays in the propagation. I just talked to one of them a minute ago and it took almost six days to propagate (and I'm not just talking for him, I'm talking worldwide).

I'm just wondering if they're having issues or if this is normal for them? I've never waited more than about 8 hours with GoDaddy...

I just got off live chat with namecheap, here is their response to my question about long wait times:

Our dns servers have been experiencing a large ddos attack. This could contribute to longer than normal propagation times and errors. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you and your customers and assure you that we are working around the clock to correct the problem. If this issue still persists 24 hours from now, please contact us again via live support or a trouble ticket.

...okay then.

Yeah typically within a day, I tried to set some .infos as name servers once that didn't really work, haha. Don't do that!

I'm using namecheap for most of my primary domains now (due to the SSL and WhoisGaurd that comes with a transfer), but I don't use their FreeDNS rather I'm still using a self-hosted dns server on the softlayer box.

Free DNS lately always seem to be the target of 'large scale DDOS attacks'.

I know this is an old thread, but still relevent...

just wondering if anyone here uses namecheaps freedns?

I'm using it for some sites that need to "blend in", but today i've found that freedns1.registrar-servers.com has been up and down like a yoyo today, and the other 5 servers dont seem to make a difference - the site I'm testing it with doesnt resolve during these periods.

No mentions on their twitter of issues, so just wondering if anyone here has issues too?
