Are these guys the new NetSol or what?

Yesterday I ran a whois at domaintools on a .org I was interested in, never been reg'd before. I go to Namecheap, run a search, it says 'available' I go to register it, and the credit card authorization takes a bit longer than it should before it flashes up as "unsuccessful registration" or something to that effect.

I reg'd a few dot coms and attempt my .org reg again, same problem so I give up once I see a nice yellow banner on my account page that says "we are having difficulties with .org and .info domains ... we're looking into it, etc, etc....."

Fast forward to today, and now the .org domain name has been reg'd by namecheap....... today.

I'm guessing someone at Namecheap went through their list of failed regs for that day and went on a little shopping spree - bastards.

I've actually noticed some issues with namecheap lately as well. I've loved them ever since I've started using them, but recently things have been going downhill a bit. Severe lag when trying to reg a domain, failed domain searches, etc. I always notice that they have some issue or another for their hosting customers too.

I'm still sticking with them and moniker though unless it gets bad.

Yeah, so far they've been cool and I guess it's a pretty asshole thing for me to do to blame Namecheap for this, even if technically, they may be at fault for the downtime but I guess they can only control their employees so much.

Just felt the need to rant I guess.

No, I hear you man... hell I'd contact them about it. Tell them that you find it slightly odd that the domain you were trying to reg during their issues is now, magically, registered by them. I think you could do it tactfully enough to the point where they get the message but don't think that you're some irate newb...they might even give you the domain.

Good idea. I doubt I would even bother now, not having the domain itself really isn't sticking it to me as the principle of the matter. Besides if it was that great of a name, it wouldn't have sat unreg'd all this time.

It may be possible that while your transaction timed out, Nmecheap's request to register the domain did succeed but they were unable to complete your transaction. Just a thought. Give em a ring and let us know what comes of it.

Sweet. Gotta love em.... now if only their damn coupons worked if you want to register for more than 1 year.

Good to hear.

BTW On another topic near to this was suspected to be. The ICANN group is going to severely limit domain tasting in the future. This should cut down on a lot of problems with registers grabbing names.

I checked out a .com name 2 days ago which Namecheap said was available.
I then logged out to check for a discount coupon and then returned to register the domain. it came back as taken. In that 2 minutes? I think that some funny business is going on.
