What are the actual differences between the sites?

I have done some affiliate marketing but not arbi. Although my sites pretty much suck, I'm learning. :)

My question is what are the actual practical differences between the two types of sites? Is it just that the affiliate site is designed with seo in mind? Is there more or less content on one or the other? Other than seo, is there a difference in the content?

If someone is willing to PM me with a link to some good actual arbi sites and affiliate sites they have up, I promise i'm not looking to copy any content, design or niche.

Apologies if this belongs in the newbie area.

with affiliate marketing 99% of the time you're selling products or services.

with arbitrage all you're trying to do is get them to click most of the time.

arbitrage is the buying and selling of clicks. buy low sell high.

a better answer. i'm out of it today. 4:32pm and i have yet to eat a thing.

What about Adsense sites that don't use PPC for traffic? Are there substantial differences between those sites and arbi sites?

What about Adsense sites that don't use PPC for traffic? Are there substantial differences between those sites and arbi sites?

Sites that don't get traffic from ppc rely on natural traffic and the results in revenue can vary greatly depending on the ads in question, the visitor demographic of the site, etc. But I believe (and correct me if I'm wrong folks) in general that regular sites that just have Adsense on them typically have a lower CTR than arbi sites. This because arbi sites are set up for the sole purpose of getting the visitor to click and move on. A good arbi site is therefore likely to present relevant ads that the visitor was searching for in the first place. Any other site that serves another purpose, but also happens to have Adsense on it, will get a lower click-through rate since the visitor came to the site for other reasons as well (to read blog posts, read news, download files, etc.).

There are also arbi sites that don't rely on ppc traffic. Commonly referred to as MFA (Made for Adsense) sites, these commonly have several subpages related to the same topic (with a menu to navigate for example), but each page is still optimized for Adsense to get clicks rather than present info the user will bother to read.

A lot of blackhat ppl will mass generate tons of MFA sites and get some free traffic and clicks that way.

Arbitrage = buying PPC traffic and trying to convert it (whether it's Adsense clicks or affiliate sales/leads)

Many, many MFA sites are not doing any arbitrage - About.com is a major example of one that is not. And many affiliate sites do engage in arbitrage - for example, NexTag and Shopzilla.

Garbitrage (arbi sites with useless content) is done both by MFA sites and by affiliate sites, but in practice it's much more common for MFA sites.
