mysql through cpanel vs manual upload

Noob question
Is there any benefit of using your own uploaded mysql vs using the mysql database provided by your host? I know mine provides like 25 different databases but is there any benefit of your own?

reason i ask is I tried to use wp through my host and it sucked I had to upload it on my own to get all the functions i need.

It wouldnt show me the config files or allow me to edit them. I would check my root dir and it just wasnt there. maybe my host?

doesnt matter anyway it only allows 2 installs of blogs through the cpanel
