Hey all, i think it's a great idea to keep a journal here. I'm not gonna get stuck in the analysis paralysis that cripples so many new people here, so i'll be posting a daily recap of what I've done to move to my goal.

Goal: $150.00 a day by Jan 1, 2012. all from an online business.

I have no experience in internet marketing, SEO or PPC, and I'm starting out with a $125 budget. After wading through this and other forums, I chose this guide as a start.

Day 1
  • I bought hosting from hostgator(sweet holiday special), bought my domain on a niche i like
  • Made sure the niche i picked gets some traffic, with reasonable competition(google keywords)

I worked through this guide, and got stuck setting up my wordpress files onto the root directory.figured it out, got my files on the public html directory.

does anyone know why when i go to www.doman.com/install.php or www.domain.com/wp-admin/install.php i get nothing?

constructive feedback only please. Leave the faggotry somewhere else.
 


I'd check a couple of things:

1. If you copied the files from one dir to another on the host server double check the file and dir permissions. Make sure the webserver can serve them up.

2. You went straight into public_html? Not into a directory named public_html/yourdomain.com?

(I don't know about hostgator, but the hosting company I use allows unlimited domains (Apache virtual hosts). If Hostgator allows you to run multiple domains, you may want to adopt the public_html/<domainname or identifier>/. You can do the same thing on Win hosts running IIS 7.)

3. Been a while since I installed WP. If I remember correctly, if you install the core in a place that's different than the path the web server will serve there's a path you have to change in a PHP include file or something.

Day2

okay i figured it out after a while, and asking around from different people
Changing name servers via NameCheap.com
changed it to my hostgator account, and my first website is live!!!

dchuk: from what i know, ill be using some amazon affiliate, different affiliate networks including:neverblue, a4d, and clickbank(maybe). When i gain a following and status as an expert, ill make information products based on my niche. They're easy to make and have a sweet profit margin.

for an SEO site, what would you guys recommend, for tools? other possible avenues to monetize? Ive noticed this in other threads/forums. Why do people not share exact niches/what they're doing? theft?

today in day 2 i plan to set up wordpress/ customize with themes/banner, add the plugins above, get my first 2 articles up, and add some adwords to it.

when should i start link building? would anyone link to some info on linkbuilding?
 
Got my wordpress set up, apparently had to change the DNS zones on my domain. hosting support was great, they pointed me to Changing name servers via NameCheap.com and i got it set up finally.

Chuk:I plan to monetize the site over time with SEO, google adsense. I want to find a couple of great products through a4d, or neverblue, or clickbank(maybe) to promote as well. After I develop a following, ill test the release of small audio-information downloads, see if I get positive feedback, and if so release information products in my niche. Further down the road, I can do anything once Ive established myself as an expert. Teleseminars, actual seminars, video courses… are my ideas. How else would you guys monetize an information rich niche?
Writeandreview: Yea, Ill change over to public_html/domain.com. I have unlimited domains with my hosting, and once I get my feet wet im gonna set up multiple sites.
Started wading through themes for wordpress/the plugins from day 1.
Prepared first articles, but haven’t posted them yet because I want to find quality wordpress themes/templates. Do you guys know how to tell high quality templates? Is this a good plan to begin with?
 
Is it spam/some kind of attack of atttack if i have 12 unique visitors so far with 3000 hits in pages?
 
Day 3
Finally, found a solid wordpress theme, got my first 450word article up. Streamlined the permalinks on my posts, and put up my first affiliate banner. Really, this is something I truly trust and would recommend to anyone.

Day4
Morning:
Didn’t do much because of school, but I made goals for what I want to do when I get home tomorrow, get everything with my plugins squared away
Design a theme
Set up google analytics tracking
Email/email back dudes with hypnosis blogs for advice,
Outline, draft the what is nlp? Goals, methodology, c>E, and setting useful outcomes post.
What are good ways to protect myself against spam/the general shit on the internet?
My website is up, found a solid wordpress theme, got my first 450word article up. Streamlined the permalinks on my posts, and put up my first affiliate banner. Im glad the product is something I truly trust and would recommend to anyone. it's quality looking, and the posts I've written so far are the best writing I've ever done. If anyone knows links to good places to learn how to write more descriptively, persuasively, and entertaining, link it, please.

I also found a similar website in my niche from a pro that's just a few months ahead of me. Emailing him for specific advice/possible interview and link on a popular website. :)

Can anyone give me a definitive list of wordpress plugins/widgets they'd recommend in starting a commercial blog?



Day5:
Helped a friend of mine get set up for his own website, took about 1.5 hours tops(compared to the 10 hours it took me lol). Got signed up for ppc coach and working my way through their tutorials, which are awesome. Signed up for peerfly(network), and adsense/adwords, and Microsoft adcenter. I had signed up for neverblue a few days ago and got rejected , so I’ m going to call them every day till I get in .
Also, got a final(I think) list of wordpress plugins up on my server. Haven’t went through to activate them, it’s really late, check back tomorrow.

Day6:
Signed up for Marketleverage, and CX Digital Media. Got rejected from CX Digital Media, called to confirm/try to get approved, and they say try back in 6 months lol. They’re not taking new applicants in the industry. Wonder if I can go back with a reference and get approved? Didn’t sign up with rocket profit, they have no signup page... Signed up with Azoogle, copeac, and Clickbooth. Copeac just sent back an email saying experienced publishers only, asking my for screenshots of network accounts I work with, how long ive been a member… Does anyone know how new affiliate marketers get approved to these networks? it seems like a vicious cycle that only experienced affiliate marketers can sign up for networks, but to gain enough experience you must already be in a network.
Signed up for inuvo(primary Ads). Tried to sign up for hydra media, but I don’t make 10 000 dollars yet. Signed up for flux ads
 
Day 7:
So far, I've gotten approved by adsense!, indexed by googlbots!, approved by xy7.com and market leverage(first affiliate networks)!
Working hard on the next post, doing some good research into it. I've heard that there blog carnivals/directory sites that will help me/others spread the word about new and awesome sites like mine. Does anyone have a 'standard' list of these or know where to find some?
 
Wow, it's been a while since i posted on here, sorry guys. I have, though, been very busy on my sites/junk. Read the 4 hour workweek, insane book, go get it.
Yesterday, Day 15 officially

I MADE MY FIRST $3.86 on adsense!!!!
