Too bad I didn't have a proper scanner to upload the image of this nice little letter, I've been threatened in the past via email and other means but no one has ever taken to time to actually figure out my legal address and send me a letter saying I'm in serious shit haha.

Well I was going to ignore it cause well its just threats until my lawyer recommended I shut down the two sites which were causing the issue.

Its kind of strange in a way too cause the letter said I was willingly breaking the law when the fact of the matter is I actually didn't think what I was doing was actually breaking the law.

Anyway thats the end of my story how many of you all have gotten a recent C&D order?

Except for Jon because we all know he gets at least 10 per day.

I've gotten my share.
Most recent was some very angry christians.. And they were more technically savvy than I would've liked.

haha I can just imagine what that letter said, I bet they didn't threaten jail time or a fine but rather something along the lines of "God will strike you down if you don't do as we say".

Haha I wish they were that entertaining! But sadly no. I few complaints to a few companies requesting I get shut down, an attempt to remove my whois privacy (thankfully 1&1 responds to complaints about as often as they respond to customers), and some other crap.
Then it was over. It was times like that I was glad almost no one in this industry(with the exception of 2 marketers, and my affiliate networks) knows my last name.
 
Hey I just found something out well not really but how the fuck did these guys get my real home address when every last one of my domains are under private registration.

How many people think that GoDaddy would give up your personal info when asked to do so by a law firm? Because right now the only way I can really see them getting the correct address is by getting around the private registration process GoDaddy has in place.

GoDaddy? Yeah I can picture them doing that easily. From what I've heard it takes very little for them to cave.
 
I got 4 in one week from the "For Dummies" corp.... They even chased me a bit after I took the sites down.

Said I was willfully trying to damage their trademark due to my multiple fordummies.com websites. Kept referring to long term damages.... I wet myself a little when the letters referring the long term damage came along with the acknowledgment of their notice the sites were down.

Never tried to take the domains from me, and my lawyer said I had to shut them down or plan on losing and losing big.....
 
I've never gotten a real one. I always get some asshole that thinks he's a part-time lawyer emailing me to Cease and Desist (they usually spell it wrong). The best one was years ago when a speed shop took my car for a day to install some parts and when I went to pick it up they hadn't even touched it. I got into it with the manager and he literally wanted to FIGHT me. This guy would have put a serious hurt on me. Later, I put up a website telling the whole story, telling the truth but at the same time making them look like a bunch of douchebags. Well, with a little SEO, my page started coming up before there's for just about every keyword phrase relating to Mustang modifications in Oklahoma.
He sent me a C&D letter himself riddled with spelling errors and grammar rodeo. I told him he needed to find a really great lawyer and and at the same time pick up a dictionary. This went back and forth for about a month when one day he finally sent me a letter (gasp) apologizing. I told him "Sheeeeit, negro.... that's all you had to say." I took down the site the next day. They ended up going out of business some time later, anyway.
Assholes.

hahaha I was able to get the notice on the computer although its in shitty view but still have a read for fun.

My poor software destroyed by a simple letter.
 
that is the crappiest 'diy lawyer' letter I've ever seen. "For now my client will not prosecute you as I would like to resolve this matter amicably" - fuckwit can't even remember whether he's pretending to be the 'invisible lawyer', or 'himself', pretending to be 'the client'.

Tell em to go fuck themselves.

And btw - asking you to destroy software that 'actively encourages infringing copyright' - yeah - better destroy all those pens (and paper) and crayons, and bits of charcoal. And xerox machines and photocopiers and you get the fucking idea
