Fuck it, I had a detailed post written out with what I have done so far blah blah but I hit submit and my browser crashed.

Anyway here is the short version.

I purchased a fresh EMD domain a week ago today.

Put it up on my cheap hosting account and built a basic wordpress site.

Handwrote my first article, about 1200 words with pics and a youtube vid embedded.

Threw some handmade bookmarks at it, a few blog comments in related niche, some dofollow some nofollow.

Added the site to some of my existing forums profiles in the niche.

Signed up to about a dozen (so far) SB sites and added some bookmarks.

Made a squidoo lens, which is now sitting on about page 30 for its keyword in google, it has 11 squid likes (including a giant squid which apparently are sought after) and it's climbing the ranks fast and is just outside the top 50k after about 5 days.

Wrote one ezinearticles article with backlinks in the resource box but wating for approval still.

It was ranking for nothing other than the site name for the first 5 or 6 days (no surprise) but got a nice little surprise this morning when I found it was on page 2 and 3 for about 5 of my long tail keywords, however it's still not ranked for the main keyword which is reasonably competitive (fitness niche).

Anyway, will soldier on and throw more bookmarks, blog comments and maybe some more squidoo/hubpages/article directory links at it and see where it goes from here.

Expenses so far: <$10 for the domain
Revenue: Diddly Squat

Just believe that you can get ranked high and keep a good pace of building backlinks with a highly diversified profile...you are good to go :)

hmmmm. It would be great if Wickedfire had a sub-forum for threads just like this. Something that pertains to traffic....and content.... hmmmmm....

you've chosen not the best time to rank emd domain, however, sub+ to this topic to see your outcomes. + good luck

I would disagree, when everyone else is scared of EMD's is a good time to work on one IMO.

I've never been one to follow the herd.

Spent several hours last night commenting on do follow commentluv blogs in related fields. Checked this morning and have climbed a few more places in rankings. Squidoo lens climbed a bit more, not fussed about making money from squidoo, will make a few cents if I'm lucky, but it is a good feeling to know that my first effort at a lens is doing well.

Future plans include setting up a pop up form to capture emails, setting up an autoresponder series and then once that's up and running getting some more traffic via PPC.

As long as I do something every day and improve by just 1% I will get there eventually.

Can I suggest, as well as keeping track of Expenses and Revenue, also keep track of Time Invested as this is an important aspect for many people.

Everyone's time has different values to them. While I don't consider mine to be infinite of course I know I have plenty of it to invest, others probably don't but they have the financial means to pay others to do crap they don't want to do. I aim to eventually be in that situation as well.

But for now I'm time rich and money poor. I don't have a job and don't need to get one any time in the future, we have low overheads and my wife has a .gov job that pays the bills without too much hassle. If I can make even a modest $50 a day which I fully intend to achieve then I will never need to work for somebody else again. That would give us a semi comfortable middle class existance, however I want more than that so $50 per day is only an interim goal.

I stay at home but obviously have a few responsibilities like getting my son to school, looking after my younger son who is still a few months away from starting school. I also try to do my bit around the house but my wife cuts me some slack atm because she knows I am working on something bigger.

I work out at the gym 5-6 times per week and try to get up at 5:30 every morning and walk for an hour, I listen to Anthony Robbins on my phone while I walk so that time has double benefits. So yeah I have physical goals as well as financial ones.

Time invested is pretty much everything I have spare atm, if I'm not out walking or at the gym or eating or sleeping or taking my son to and from school then I'm more than likely at the computer either working on backlinks, working on content, or reading and learning more.

Subbed. This should be interesting.

Would like to see more metrics though. Also, if you can provide some more information on the keyword if possible as well, it would help us tremendously in gauging your analytics. (Not the keyword itself, obviously, but competition, search volumes etc. would be great.)

Also, please ensure that you don't fade away like the multiple case study aspirants here.

Yeah didn't EMD's just take a hit? Keywords I googled a month ago would display EMD's.. today they dont..

I think this has less to do with the EMD and more to do with the shit link building most people did to EMD's.

My understanding is that "low quality" EMD's took a hit. I take low quality to mean shitty content and shitty backlink profiles.

I'm hand writing my content (around 1200 words per article) intead of using spun or ESL written 500 word articles from fiver.

Also working on diversity in backlinks rather than spamming or relying on one source of backlinks.

Also doing some on page SEO with Yoast's plugin but not aiming for max optimisation. I'm leaving some stuff as what many would consider "suboptimal".

One of my sites with 0 backlinks and decent enough content went to #1 on page 1 last week. Another EMD that was getting 5k uniques/month (had 600 shitty fiverr backlinks and one legit edu backlink) is no longer even on first 10 pages of Google, brought my traffic down to 10-15 uniques/day. :(

Does anyone know how hard is to bounce back? The domain that got effected had 165k broads and 27k exact searches :\

I bought an EMD a few months ago, put one shitty article on it, and after 30 days it was #3, about 20-25 visitors a day. It's been there for a couple months now, looks like it might stick.

The first crappy one I made is still there. Bouncing alot between 1-9 for all three but still there.

A week since I started this and I haven't done much with the site, just waiting to see what happens.

Google is slowly finding many of my links and the site is still slowly climbing the rankings.

Funny thing happened, the Squidoo lens I threw up in like an hour is getting more traffic than my site, it got featured somewhere on squidoo and got a nice little burst of traffic and bunch of squid likes, facebook likes, +1's, tweets etc. It's climbing in rank still and currently sitting in the 15-20k rankings.

My ezinearticles finally got approved and is getting a trickle of views and clicks to my homepage.

Rankings for some long tail keywords.

The first 2 basically have no search volume to speak of so I probably should ignore those.

17 is for something with some pitiful double digit numbers so not very important.

26 is when it starts to show some potential. between 15 and 20k broad and phrase matches. This is the phrase my EMD targets. (The Squidoo lens is currently sitting at #3 for this search lol.)

Next is another long tail I might as well delete from the checker.

79 and 82 are slight variations of my EMD and have about 20k searches between them (broad and phrase).

Unfortunately none of them get any noticeable exact searches so not sure if I chose a bad EMD, but I'm gonna stick this out and see what I can make of it.

No earnings yet as traffic is still woeful and I haven't put any ads on it yet as I'm not sure if going too hard with ads will negatively impact my chance to get this site up higher.

Sorry if there's nothing exciting here, I haven't done much in the past week as I have been researching other areas of interest.
