Who's got emm...and what kind?

Looking to buy a decent bike - 600 to 1000$ range...but have no idea what to look for...nothing too hardcore...but wanna hit some decent trails and dont want a walmart bike falling apart on me.

Throw me a fricken bone here people....

Hey man. I got a Kona Fire Mountain and I like it. They aren't too expensive, just under $600, and it's held up like a champ after much abuse.

In that price range you are looking at a hardtail (front shock only, no rear suspension) for a decent bike. Which is fine for your first mountain bike. You'll learn proper technique on a hardtail.

Most important thing is how the bike fits you. Go to a bike store not a department store and have a knowledgeable salesperson help you with the fit to start. Then ride the bike (on trails if possible). Around the parking lot is better than nothing.

Try out different brands an 18" Kona will feel and fit differently than an 18" bike of another brand.

If you have friends that ride try their bikes. Try out as many bikes as you can.

There is a lot of good info here Mountain bike product reviews forums classifieds trails

If you have any more specific questions, I'll help as much as I can. Been riding a while, so I know a little bit.

I managed to pick up the 2008 version of this:
Evans Cycles | Speciallized Hardrock Pro Disc 2009 Mountain Bike | Online Bike Shop
6 months ago for £350 ($700), and it's been awesome. I'm out on it most weekends for a few hours and it takes a lot of stick (I'm 105kg) and has had nothing apart from a few punctures. Great bike for the price.

I second Specialized. I got a Rockhopper Pro Disc. It's a beast!

Don't buy a Walmart bike for $300 cus trust me you'll tear right thru it. Get a good brand like Specialized... Gary Fisher or Trek and just their low or mid model... can't go wrong.

i think im just gona go into a bike store and pick out the prettiest one in my price range.... and one that has a cool name.... theres just wayyy too many options for me

Here's my Titus Motolite.

Try to spend your bucks on a something with decent frame/suspension, you can always upgrade individual components later. If you are going full suspension definitely go with a 4 bar linkage - fully active design. Hit me up on if you need more specific advice.

A bike like this one costs no more than 75$ in India.

lol yesterday i would of said no but I woke up this morning and there was my old mountain bike sitting in my driveway. I guess my mom dropped it by earlier. Had a garage sale price tag on it so I assumed she tried to sell it and failed like a *honk*. haha
whoop I have a bike! Now I just hope the old saying is true about riding a bike and never having to relearn it.

It looks like any other mountain bike but with two flat tires and a kick ass horn that i now use to censor myself and annoy people.

This is exactly what the horn looks like. PRETTY *honk*'IN SNAZZY!
