I cannot stand it when someone says "Make me an offer" "How much are you looking for"

Then you the buyer respond with "Well, I'm looking for something along the lines of $xxx.xx, but I'm willing to negotiate, or take your counteroffer into consideration"

Then you never hear back from them. I can't tell you how many of those dudes I get contacting me a day.

Whenever I make an offer on something, I've always got a counteroffer prepared, or when I ask about the price of something, there is a counteroffer prepared.

Idk, maybe it's just ocd, I know this is how business works, but it's just a pet-peeve.

Do any of you have any similar petpeeves?

Negotiation is an art form. Also a social requirement in many cultures (India, Middle East, etc.)

Pet peeve depends on what is being bought / sold though.

If someone makes me an unsolicited offer for a domain name I own and it is less than $300-$500 (depending on how good the domain is), I don't respond.

If they ask about a domain I own without offering a price, I tend to quote them something about 50%+ higher than what I would take. Then if they don't respond I know they weren't serious, if they respond complaining about the price I know they want it.

Just try different things. High, low, crazy offers, I've got another buyer, I am going to put it up on eBay tomorrow if I don't hear back from you, etc. etc.

Much easier to do via Email than on the phone or in person if you are trying to get the hang of it.

Read Felix Dennis how to get rich he covers negotiation pretty well.

If I'm buying things I lowball them and if I'm selling I put the highest I could imagine someone still paying for that. Gotta try your luck every time.

I usually negotiate over AIM and never through email exactly because of the problem you mentioned.

I have a software that does all that:

There is a counteroffer set up as an autoreply, scanning the text of the email and offering 5% less than the amount stated.

If they reply to the counteroffer with anything except an agreement (software scans the text for 'favorable' terms), it injects a keylogger into their machine, cancels all their credit card accounts, and emails sexually suggestive messages to everyone on their contacts list.

It then replies with a counter counter offer of the original offer amount.

domainers ...

Or they just realized you're a douchebag who overvalues your shitty domain names to the point of larceny. Enjoy making peanuts from your parked pages.

If you're 50% over what the market is paying... why should i respond do you?

It's obvious you're just trying to gouge me and that tells me something about the person you are.

Anyone trying to gouge me isn't that far from trying to scam me.

Not worth my time.
