I've been messing around developing a few android applications lately. Because they work on a collaborative basis (users sharing information) they'll work much better as free apps than paid so I'm trying to work out how to make money out of them.

I rather like the idea of in app advertising since it's a constant revenue stream rather than a one off payment (which also serves as a barrier to the customer). Also toying with a subscription model. $1 for first 3-6 months subscription then $1/month after that.

Anyone had any experience placing ads directly into mobile apps (as opposed to mobile web pages)? I'm not having much luck finding ad networks that support android. Google has a beta program but the entry requirements are pretty steep and I won't meet them yet.

I would have thought the industry would be falling all over themselves to provide platforms. Especially with all the possibilities opened up by targeting to the customers current location or collecting behavioural data.

I just googled it out of interest and it looks like the industry IS falling over itself with advertising platform providing SDKs for Android app developers to use.

dont Admob do it?

others that came up that recently release Android SDKs: Greystripe, ZestADZ and AdLocal
