Hey guys,

I've run into a problem rolling out my ecomm site that I thought you could help with. I wanted to get opinions/advice on migrating wordpress and woocommerce data from one site to another.

I have a shared hosting account (I know, I know) that has a primary domain that is different from the domain I am rolling out for this ecomm site.

Because it's different, I cannot get an SSL certificate for the domain I'm working (at least not through the hosting).

So with this, my options are: A) Start a new hosting account with my ecomm domain as the primary domain or B) Change my primary domain to the ecomm domain.

For my backend, I'm utilizing Wordpress with the WooCommerce plugin. I also have Yoast SEO, akismet, and a couple others for sitemaps, search, etc etc.

I've never migrated data from one wordpress site to another so I don't know how smooth that is. Additionally, I've never migrated WooCommerce data from one to another.

It seems like this should be no big deal, but I'm curious if anyone has ever had to do this or something similar to this and would care to enlighten me on the process. Should I even try to migrate or is there a better option with SSL certs? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!

That was so full of words I can barely understand.

Are you trying to say that your hosting provider will only provide you with an SSL cert for your "primary" domain?

If so you should get a different hosting provider.

It's easy to migrate data from one WordPress site to another. Hit me up if you need help.

I'm wordy, I know... I'm working on it.

Thank you for the reply. I spoke with my host and I think I'm all set but I'll hit you up if I have any more questions. Thank you for the offer!

Hire to someone to tar it up, gzip it and move it to the new host. It's not that big of deal.

Your conversion rates are going to SUCK when going from one domain to another. Just an FYI!

Update:

For anyone searching for this down the road, the solution was pretty easy.

Before my host made my ecomm domain my primary domain, I did an SQL export of the wp database. Then my hosting made the switch. After that, I reinstalled WP, got my theme and all plugins reinstalled, and then imported the SQL database over the new one.

Finally I moved my old WP-Content folder and replaced the new one and the site is back up and running.

Thanks everyone for the tips!
