I've never bought media through an Ad network but am getting tempted. Dealing with most publisher websites is a real pain with the unresponsiveness of the guys behind the "Advertise with us" section of the website.

So with the Ad networks

-Do you negotiate the terms with the publisher themselves, or the network? I've heard billing off your own adserver counts is essential due to massive discrepancies that happen.

Yes you negotiate with the netowrk. But be cautious and read ALL the threads here about media buying. Especially posts by dickarmy, he drops some essencial knowledge but it's scattered all around this forum.

I'm actually surprised you didn't use your own ad server for direct buys. How large were they?

I'm not even sure if you know what an adserver is... Besides that, you need negotiating skills which you obviously do not have. Your best bet is to give the fuck up and go back to ppc shit.

Wow some good lols in here already.

Also best to do your introduction/negotiating over the phone. Unless you want to waste a week going back and forth with emails.

For starts, why don't you try running with a self-serve network? You can get some decent placements through some media exchange networks, however you'll pay a little bit higher. If you haven't tested shit out thoroughly, the last thing you want to do is be locked in a minimum 2-3 day buy with CPM only to find you're not getting clicks etc.

Do your research before starting a buy, come up with a media plan and/or RFP. Helps alot with negotiating if you have something in front of you and you "act" like you know what you want.
