I have been working with GCN for about a year, mostly through either targeted placements or keywords.

However, I have seen a lot of banners come up on various sites via Google that are clearly not related by content of the ad or LP.

Now, they could obviously be cloaking or something like that to trick out the google bots, but I see it enough I think I am missing something in my content network tool kit.

Is there a way of setting up your content network campaigns to create a sort of "run of network" type campaign? Basically showing up on lots of obscure sites instead of highly focused targeted ones - like a remnant media model?

I have thought about doing this manually via placement, but not sure how to find some of the "odd corners" of the net to place my banner ads on.

You need a good CTR and an account with some good history and google will put your ads on non-related sites.

test, test and test some more.

Doesnt the QS get trashed though?
Nope. Google doesn't actually require landing pages to be relevant to their content network keywords. There's really nothing akin to QS in Google Content, other than the traditional definition of quality score (CTR * CPC).

okay, so if it is CTR*CPC and thats all that matters, then whats the best strategy to get exposed to the various sites that are not related? Putting up lots of adgroups with keywords that may draw volume but are not about your offer, finding the sites and targeting via placement, etc?

For instance, I saw a diet ad on a forum about network security. Are they guys running those ads really creating adgroups for computer security and leveraging history + good CTR?

I think with the slap happy G bullshit we've recently seen, QS (or relevancy) may start to get introduced into content campaigns.

I do not find this to be true. I had .50% CTR to .65% CTR with very high CPC on content network. One day some of my unrelated kw's got slapped with 2/10 QS, while other kw's QS remained high, as observed via AdWords Editor.

So do you guys have any success with bidding on unrelated keywords? Like if you have a berry blog, would you try to get your ads on food or recipe sites, because those people might want to lose weight?
