I'm a newb to making monies online, and about ready to stop getting dick rolled and do something ;) .

I'm not particularly interested in black-hat, and to get going with something, I think I'm going to start a few blogs on subjects I know about, post some good real content to begin with, do some SEO and see what happens.

I've got plenty of tech knowledge, and have already got a dedicated server with wp, stats, and openx installed.

If I set myself a target of say, $1000 revenue in a month, and I think I can get an average CPM of $0.50, does it follow that my goal then just becomes getting 500,000 impressions per month?

The blogs are going to be mostly tech, which seems like a pretty saturated space, but I'm going to try and focus on some specific areas.

Say I focus on something like high quality LCDs.. is $0.50 CPM a reasonable target sale price?

Thanks,

m

Advertising prices depend on a huge number of things. I would worry about getting the traffic first, and then figure out how to much to charge for it. That said a $0.50 CPM is a completely reasonable, if not low price for most sites.

I would say get the idea of banner ads out of your head for, until you actually do get visitors. 500,000 is a lot of people to net. Start slow. It's called baby-steps. While it's good to have a goal for yourself (such as your $1000 a month goal), don't get too clouded the m0niez. Most individuals with content-based sites are more passionate about the content, and not the prospect of money, and probably only throw up some banner ads after they get the traffic, if only to pay for hosting. Anything extra is just a bonus.
