In before:

- He never fought anybody.
- He fought middleweights and losers.
- Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski were past their primes.
- The best HW fighters for the past 15 years have been in the UFC; Pride sucked.

Edit: I can't help but point out that Sylvia and Arlovski were top 5 in the world, and he beat them both decisively within 6 months of each other in 2008.

Yes, those were the days. Fedor vs Mirko. Fedor vs Nog. Epic battles and that beatdown of Sylvia and the one punch KO over Arlovski should have been the last of his career.

Fedor didn't have the fire anymore in his last fights, plus he was noticeably smaller, no doubt becuase he couldn't juice as much.

It's still amazing how a guy who was only 183 cm tall could demolish much larger fighters and that ice cold stare.

MMA is dead to me after PRIDE folded. UFC is a spectacle aimed at the lowest common denominator and poor quality.

And lets not forget his brother was pretty badass too in his own right

Unfortunately you are kind of right. It's weird to see a sport evolve and then in it's attempt to get a large audience lose its roots. I don't blame the UFC for doing what it has done but part of me misses the days that there was no MMA formula. Instead each school had their own ideas and sent their guys to compete.

Now everyone does the same thing, it's just that some of them do things better than other.

Having said that some UFC fighters are still fun to watch like Machida or Jon Jones because they have their own style.

Sure, part of it is because UFC has retarded rules and scoring which encourages wrestlers. That is obviously because the UFC really plays up the redneck nationalism and most american fighters are wrestlers. The rules were imo better and more balanced in PRIDE.

The stomps and soccer kicks made it more dangerous to shoot for a takedown, so wrestlers and grapplers had to think more about it or do a more exciting judo trip. Then again, the longer rounds allowed submission specialists more time to get the submission.

All around just better rules and of course much superior presentation. PRIDE was like watching a real life Street Fighter 2 while UFC is more Mortal Combat with an emphasis on seeing blood.
