Hope this is the right area for this, if not feel free to move the thread.

Soccer Surfer organizes your favorite soccer (football) player's biographies, pictures, and videos all into one. Be sure to check out the players page to see the top players as voted by other visitors.

I've been working on this website on and off for a couple years and finally feel like it's done. I've put a lot of work inputing and uploading pictures to the database and wanted to give visitors a "one stop shop" for information regarding soccer players, clubs, etc.

The videos page pulls youtube videos for the Top 10 rated players in the database.

Let me know what you guys think, there are still a couple things I know I still need to fix, but I feel it's about ready.

Thanks :)

The "Soccer" term is fine when it is used to create a catchy name. As an example of this, "Soccer Saturday" on Sky sounds catchy and that is probably the biggest football program in the UK.

The idea for your website is very good imo and with the aid of Facebook could blow up. A problem for you will be if someone comes along and users the same idea, but adds on filtering by age, location, position etc.

To monetise, I guess putting up a Kitbag banner (football shirts) or a Ladbrokes banner (betting) would be a good idea. The reason I say Ladbrokes is because most people are already signed up with the big sites (Bet365, William Hill etc) and I am on Ladbrokes program and they offer good incentive bonuses and they do CPA or rev share.:)

I'm not totally sure about the name, if I'm honest. America's the only place that calls it soccer, the rest of the world calls it football. Soccer just sounds a bit... odd, if I'm honest.

Other than the name: needs monetization, could probably do with some form of community to keep people coming back.

Flash games? (for ideas see here: BBC SPORT | Fun and Games | Games )

aus calls it soccer too. (we have our own football)

I also have reservations about the name. I do agree it can be a good catchy name once you have a fanbase. But i might be harder to get a fanbase outside of america, where football (soccer) is massive.

Nice work, but I always had to hunt for the link.

So for example, the players name... why not make the picture clickable?

Same at the Nations page ... Why not make the flag clickable?

::emp::

How does it make money?
I haven't monetized it yet, do you have any suggestions?

Jakowenko, do I know you from the Teamcompete days? haha...
What up Randy, ya that's me man. Long time haha, what's new?

Thanks for the suggestions on monetizing, I'll check those out.

I actually was working on the search portion and just had to fit it into the design :) I added the search bar under the banner which will help users easily search for various information. What do you think?

nice work

Thanks man!

You're exactly right, can't believe I didn't do this to begin with. I've made all the thumbnail images now clickable to their appropriate pages. Thanks for the suggestion.

I only have one question: How the fuck did Landon Donovan reach number 7? Im looking at the players page
Maybe because of this World Cup saving goal last summer? Not sure.

That advanced search helps to filter results, but it would be great if these filtered results could rank so we could perhaps find out the best player from Argentina, or the best overall striker and so on.

Some advice: Signup to a shedload of football forums. For example, head to a Liverpool fan forum and use the anchor text sig "GERRARD NEEDS YOUR VOTE" or something like that and you'll do well for clickthroughs + these links are relevant and soon add up. You could also target official pages on Facebook and do a similar thing. Some of them have +millions of members joined up so you could eat up plenty of traffic that way.

I'll see what I can do in regards to adding more to the search filtering. Thanks for the suggestion.

I've also redone the homepage a bit and cleaned it up and removed some of the unnecessary text, what do you think?

I've also added a slideshow for the header which I think looks a lot better than what I had previously.

Just wanted to show you guys what I've been working on. Using a little PHP I've created an easy way for others to generate an image of their favorite players for either putting in signatures or linking on their websites.

Here's some examples, what do you think?

Spread that on some forums, people love those things. Like the gamertag/ps3 generators, wow/maplestory etc. Spreads like wildfire
